Hello,I am looking for the length of the 5.9 with a ford zf adapter plate to the very tip of the fan. The problem I have is I am looking to convert my 79 F350 crew cab to a diesel, but my specific problem is that I can't move my transmission back at all, do to the fact that the truck has two of them. The main is a BWT18 and auxiliary is a Spicer 6041. and I have 37.5 inches from the face of the bell housing to the radiator.

I used to have it in my head it was 36" from the back of the head to front of the crank balancer. Not long ago I proved myself wrong; that dimension is actually less. I can measure again today probably.

The intercooled (91-93) accessory drive is slightly shorter.

Update...

My '90 non-intercooled engine measures 37-5/8" from the back of the block to the front of the fan clutch. (not including adapter plate)

My '93 intercooled accessory drive is ~1/2" shorter.

All Dodge did to fit the cummins in a 70's engineered truck was modify the rad support to bring the radiator a little further forward. No reason you can't modify the F250 rad support.

Hello, and thank you to all that replied like I said I have 37.5 bell face to radiator. 37 5/8 would be ok ,but most adapters I believe are 1 1/2'' or 2'' so worst case 40"total with the adapter.I'm gonna have to think about this. I do have a good 7.3 idi that is about the same size as the current 460 but it is a non turbo but that can be changed.
To use the cummins I would have to redesign the center of the rad support ,find a different rad, relocate hood latch and striker on hood and shave the grill thin.Oh ya the truck is also 2wd,no one makes mounts for that.....................but a 5.9 with 16 gears would be fun.

So, since it is two wheel drive, why not move the trans back and have a new driveshaft made?

Because my truck has TWO transmissions and THREE driveshafts. The front trans is Borg warner t18 and behind that is a Spicer 6041 auxiliary. There is the shortest possible drive shaft between them with a two piece rear shaft.I had to redesign the whole underneath of the truck to fit the spicer so moving the front trans is a no-go.Look at my avatar, see the two sticks=my truck ,front stick front trans rear stick is rear trans.the shifter for the aux. is mounted to rear of the t18 with rods that go back 18inches to the top of the spicer.4speed x 4speed =16 forward gears LLxL=13.75:1 all the way up to a 0.86 overdrive in spicer.

Okay so you have a manual trans and an auxiliary overdrive then. So where do you get three driveshafts? Is the rear most driveshaft still a two piece?

Our 90 f250 has an auxiliary overdrive and the rear most driveshaft has been converted to be on piece
