Nothing near the technical prowess or actual issues we usually seem to discuss in my limited time on this forum thus far. I want a second dome light in my truck for the back row of seating. Really no reason for it, as our dome lights do on one hand really suck when it comes to lighting with that stupid light blocking nasty yellow cover, but they also do make these online and I've bought two for my 150 and 250 and then got a white led light and been blinded when I open the doors which is a nice change.

My plan is to just cut a hole above the back row of seats in the same place in the middle of the truck where the other one is, and run a coat hanger up to the other light and try to fish the power wires back to the new hole and just use some self tapping screws through the two other holes that go in the plastic pieces which just hold it in place I think? I'm trying to remember from taking the other two out to change the map bulbs and not the main bulbs to led's in my other truck, but I think there is just a hot wire running into one of the screws with the awkward plastic piece in the back, and the long screw in the middle is the ground to the metal part of the frame and the third screw just is there to hold it in place.

Anyone ever do anything like this to their truck before? I know from doing cab lights on my 150 and taking the headliner out that the top of the cab was two separate pieces of metal with about an inch gap where I was drilling down into the cap. I assume its the same with the quad cabs too, just hoping to not run into anything that would keep me from fishing a splice wire into the original lights power source. I realize this is kinda stupid, but I like to do random stuff to make things a bit unique, like my home theater system in "Hank" my F250 which is wired into a power inverter running of a split aux cable to the head unit for the stereo's regular in door speakers. What's a guy to do with a 5 speaker home theater system he won at work and doesn't need? Sell it? Nope haha.

Watching this too as I have an ex cab and want to add a second light in back as well.

Thanks for ebay link those look great.

How do you find the LED for the reading lights? Are they effective? Do you have part nos for the 2 LED lights?

I am pulling the dome/reading lights out of my parts ex cab for my second light and will likely yank the wires too so I can just tie into existing harness.

Waiting for you to do it first ;Poke

I actually can show you a video, I did a full led swap of every light in my F150 except the headlights a while back and you can get a good idea of how much brighter it is with the LEDs and the clear cover. I still have the boxes downstairs with the halogen bulbs in them but I honestly got them all at Walmart if memory serves. Here's the video I'll go find you the bulb sizes at intermission of the hockey game.

Somewhere someone had done that. Don't ask who or where.
I don't have a crew or ec, so it went unnoticed.

I did something similar to this, but with my standard cab and not a dome light. I installed auxiliary lights on the kick panels and the metal trim strip above the rear window and wired them to the dome light. They only activate when the doors open or with the headlight switch on the dash.

I would like to do it again with the Enterprise, but I want them to activate with the rear doors as well. Maybe install a switch on the dash to disconnect the rear sensors if need be.

I just snagged the last one from that listing. I had no idea that these existed, I've been wanting to upgrade my overhead candle for ages but never got around to it. Thanks for the link ;Sweet

I did the most SMD LED / brightest LED light from hipoparts.com and a new clear cover ($10 from LMC/DC/JBG/somewhere). Very bright. Also the brightest hipoparts offered for the two under the dash. Very pleased with those along with green for the cluster. Did not do the map/reading lights as they are bright enough as is. Don't think I would bother adding another dome light, but I would like to add door switches to the rear doors. Not a big deal, but just one of those things that would be nice.

Brian, I didn't even follow the link right off the bat, but I grabbed one of those earlier in the year as well. I plan to eventually get one for Bruiser when I can pay attention to the poor redhead again. I like colored interior lights though. Interior lights only show after dark and most of the time bright white is too offensive. If your looking for something on the road (or your passenger is, most likely) or looking for something while out camping, bright white lights make things a little difficult. I did Bruiser's interior lights in red and started doing the Enterprise's interior lights in green. Also left the map lights in both trucks alone since 1. They are directional, and 2. If you really need to look at a map, you don't want to strain to find your route.

Added note, even though the lighting in the Enterprise is green, with the clear lens and the LED bulb I picked up (replacement for the stock numbered bulb), it's much brighter than stock. The colored lighting just makes it easier on the eyes/night vision.

My 89 and 90 have the glove box and ash tray lights in both, they just have this little black plastic piece that goes over both bulbs that restricted 90% of the light from both. I pulled those out and replaced the halogen bulbs with white led 194 bulbs and now my glove box is brighter then you could imagine and when you leave the ash tray open to plug a phone charger or something like that in while driving at night the light is so bright it resonates so you can see around the gear shift and on the floor some as well.

Also part is supposed to come Friday and I'm off Friday so hopefully I can get to this then.

I'll take a pic when it's dark. '80-'86 has one light under each side of dash like just about all 60s Fords, except the econoboxes which only had a single under dash light. Newer trucks don't have that?
