My only issue with all this comparability. I've read the Tech Article but I haven't found anything about what HB unit to use. Someone said a 98 Superduty should bolt right up. What I've gotten is to put I hudroboost system in my 1992 F-350 is that I need;
1 hydroboost unit $250
PS resivoir $35
High pressure lines from HB To PS
New Brake Petal.

To the best of my knowledge, a 98 unit will *not* directly fit. What you need is a 87(IIRC, not sure on 1st year of F-superduty) - 94 F-Superduty (ie F-450) unit. Certain 97+ trucks ('superduty line') also used a hydroboost, but the firewall bolt holes are different as may be other dimensions/fittings.

New brake petal is not needed if you have moderate fabrication skill. Not hard to cut the old pin off flush and drill/weld a new one in using a grade 8 bolt.

Your price for hydro unit seems a bit high to me, is that from rockauto or somewhere else? IIRC a rebuild off rock auto is something like $125 + ~$50 core.

98 wont directly bolt in as the mounting plate is wrong.

Best to part a whole setup from a 87 up F superduty you get booster reservior pedal lines and larger MC

if you want to drill a new mounting plate and weld the studs in the new poisition as well as get conversion fittings, the hydroboost from 99+ F350s works, and works well. 1.5" master bore. I have it on my truck. Like it a lot. They are plentiful and cheap from the wreckers. You dont even need the special PS reservoir housing, just tie the lines in together.

What is the story about the pushrod and clip between the master cylinder and hydroboost unit? Can they be bought separately? Part numbers? What I get is you have to buy new Motorcraft unit to get it or get one from junk yard.

This is definitely going to be my first Modification to this truck. I cringe every time some little sedan likes to cut in front of me and then rapidly brake before any stoplight or other such situation. Literally every time I have to brake a little prayer to God goes out begging that my truck doesn't end up on top of another vehicle haha. I'm going to go over my brake system with a fine tooth comb and work out all those kinks first. Rears getting new drums, wheel cylinders, lines and all that nonsense. New Calipers and Pads up front with new hard lines, especially because on my passenger side the hardline that comes off the caliper goes STRAIGHT DOWN and the rubber hose meets the hardline at a 20 DEGREE ANGLE. Like holy crap, I could go to the nearest hospital and take a recently born child, show it that setup and even it could tell me its not okay. Everyday Im blessed with new suprises from my rig....Oh well, still more character than a brand new truck will ever have
Try driving a 90's Chevy truck
brake hard ABS kicks in sends ya through a intersection.

What??:dunno

The biggest thing braking wise I have done for my truck, is getting fluid pressure to the rears.
The factory brake bias has very little to the rears, I have seen these trucks with 300k on original rear shoes.

I was burning through front pads (10k or less) until I did this, my brakes feel very good now.

Op was saying his trucks brakes suck
i was saying you haven't seen anything until you drive a factory hydroboost Chevy truck
if you brake hard(like because somebody jump in front of you and slams his) then the ABS kicks in and will send you through the intersection.

I've got the Hydro grafted into my 86 F250, and it was the best set of brakes I've ever had. And that's counting the Hydroboost I had on my old diesel Chevy Blazer which rocked!

Point I am trying to make is that this is completely worth the effort required. It's also a safety item and that's incredibly important, especially with all of those little shoeboxes on the road with you trying to end their existence by darting in front of you. Or nearly into the side of you
