I have a 1971 International 3/4 ton 4x4 pickup with a 392 and clark t-36 5 speed transmission. I have been eyeing a 6.9 conversion but I really want to keep the ol' clark. Is this possible? Can I find a t-19 bellhouse and redrill the trans flange for the Clark? I have a 13" clutch so, it should still fit inside the t-19 bellhouse. Anybody have any input?

Thanks!

IIRC the IH trucks that U-Haul used to run had 6.9l's bolted to a Clark 5 speed, although I don't remember the model number. Might be worth looking into...

Is the Clark transmission you have now an SAE bell housing or an International bell housing??

Medium duty trucks with the idi used an SAE bell adaptor that bolts to the block

It's an IH bellhouse. I'm trying to find out how long the input shafts are between the t-19 and clarks. If they are close, I believe I can make the Clark work with a little machining and clutch parts mix n match.

Could there actually exist a combo out there that these engines will fit that DOES NOT require a adapter? Maybe this is it? Certainly they were thinking of something when they designed the block weren't they?

I still can't figure out why when Ford made their adapter, they made it adapt to something that was not even made, so they had to re-tool their trannies to accept this oddball pattern they made the adapter for. There has to be a political/suit and tie reason behind it.

I need somebody to measure a T-19 bellhouse for depth from mating surface of trans to mating surface of motor. Also need to get a bellhouse mounting pattern.

Hmm that looks like a pretty deep bell housing from the picture.

Might even look for a custom adaptor from the idi block to the IH bell housing

Wow, you have the direct gasser to clark bell, thats kinda rare. It may be easier to go the sae to clark route. Someone once suggested the bell style you have would bolt right up but ive never seen enough parts together to confirm.

The bellhousing is the easy part.you need one for an ih 4700 with a 6.9/7.3 idi .get the flywheel for the same truck.

Input shaft might be a problem.you can change the input shaft to the big one for the 4700,then you can run an easy pedal clutch for the 4700 as well.

I guess I need to find some place parting out medium duty trucks. Supposedly, this trans is IH specific but made by clark. Not sure if the medium duty trucks are the same internally or not. I guess I'll have to keep looking for info before I tear this thing apart and find out I can't swap.

Negative on the tag ghost rider.

I did find some number but Not sure if they are helpful.
top cover had
6-24-T and the IH part number 335861-C2

cast into the passenger side if the case was 592 ans stamped into the lower countershaft cover was 596-R1.

That's all I could find. It weighs about 300 lbs so I cant just roll it around to look for stuff.

Thanks

The medium duty SAE bell housing is pretty big. Idk if Itd fit in a pickup frame but it would make fabing motor mounts easier because they are on the side of the bell
