what about the closer ratio in the s42 460 versison? would be nice to keep it wound up between shifts when i got a good jag on it
I was under the impression that the gas s42 is actually listed as "wide" and the diesel s42 is "close"
Diesel: 1st: 4.14, 2nd: 2.37, 3rd: 1.42, 4th: 1.0, 5th: .77, Reverse: 3.79
Gas: 1st: 5.72, 2nd: 2.94, 3rd: 1.61, 4th: 1.0, 5th: .76, Reverse: 5.24
S47 Close Ratio (Diesel I assume being listed as close)
1st: 5.08, 2nd: 2.60, 3rd: 1.53, 4th: 1.00, 5th: 0.77, Reverse: 4.66
Diesel s42 actually is closer between shifts then the close s47 just the close 47 has a steeper reverse and 1st.
So for me I think I would rather have the close s42 over the s47 if I am going to be towing and can only choose between those two.
If were talking between the wide s42 vs s47 which is what you were originally asking, then id rather have the s47 as then the s47 gear split is less of a drop.
EDIT: Diesel/F-Superduty S5-42/Close
1st-2nd: 1.77
2nd-3rd: 0.95
3rd-4th: 0.42
4th-5th: 0.23
Gas/Wide S5-42
1st-2nd: 2.78
2nd-3rd: 1.33
3rd-4th: 0.61
4th-5th: 0.24
Close S47
1st-2nd: 2.48
2nd-3rd: 1.07
3rd-4th: 0.53
4th-5th: 0.23
Close S47 (I assume the numbers I was able to find for it is the diesel 4x4 one since Diesel Brad posted them from when he used it; and I know his are diesels and 4x4's. I don't know if the 2wd got a different 47 and I can only assume close means it was for the diesel/f-superduty since that is how the S5-42 is set up.
