i want a electro-viscous fan clutch. best of both worlds. fuel savings and unmatched CFM

We've all been going down this road for a while now. save your nerves, nothing exists. I really wanted a horten air fan clutch and , no luck, With all the busses out there I figured tha theyd have one, they listed an electric, but it turned out to be a PSD , I called and talked with them and they make no clutches for an IDI and have no plans to.

I tried going the electric fan route, and even managed to get them to cool towing in this heat around here , but never got my charging system straightened out, I give up. , I'm about to throw my fan clutch back on before spring.

my very own hell
I don't think 3k is high revving for anything but a big ol diesel. I doubt a flex fan cannot pass 3k rpm
Would you run a 3k-rated fan on an engine that hits 3k every time you shift? The one I used on my 5k-6k engine was rated at 10k rpms, for an IDI (that actually reaches 4000 rpms, not just 3000) I wouldn't want a fan that can't handle at least 7k rpms...

Rob, what are your charging system issues? Your truck already has a 3G alternator from the factory, so the only mods needed for a high-power charging system would be a high-power alternator and a heavy-gauge cable between said alternator and the batteries. Considering the amount of work you put in your custom e-fans, swapping the alt and running the charge cable would be a child's play...

Ive already got the big wire and mega fuses extra grounds all that fun stuff, all I really need is the big alternator, but Lets just say that I currently have just way too much money and time invested in it and I've had enough. I'm getting too old for this crap Go take a peek at the last couple pages of the hall of shame and youll understand.

with the EVANS Coolant you have a saftey window.
Explain what is hot. I dont see any issue with an IDI at 240/250F while towing.
There is advantages in running diesels hotter, like improved MPG, cleaner Emissions.

I have not researched the brand fans you have but did you use a thermostatic switch?

Also did you ever hear about Davis Craig cooling product's from Australia?

He has some really great products for cooling systems. http://www.daviescraig.com.au/

I would love a nice electric fan and this>>> http://www.daviescraig.com.au/Controller___Switches-list.aspx
If I had even more money I would buy this also!>>> http://www.daviescraig.com.au/Elect..._Alloy_Kit__12V____PART_No__8040-details.aspx

Love to take the OEM Water Pump and ditch it along with the pulley and belts and use electric instead. MPG!

Did you take a real good look at the specs. Their fan controller has a 12a limit, that tells me their fans arent much to write home about either
As far as the electric pump, that would be a crap shoot, but to standa chance, you would need to upgrade the foo out of your charging system to a 24v system and install a series / paralell switch to devide teh 12v from the 24v circuits and get the 24v pump if you wanted to stand a chance of that working. They may rate that for a 400hp gasser street car, but a much lower hp , diesel truck pulling a load requires much higher water flow. There;s a reason you get a hernia replacing a water pump on these things LOL

When I visit the PRI show the guy has a booth setup and one of those pumps filling a resivour in a giant hurry, the controller looks really good to me as keeping the engine temp exactly where you want it.
I see he has 24 volt pumps but what do you mean the controller has a 12a limit? lost me there. only good up to 12 volts?
I would love to get as close to 30mpg from my truck and this is a necessary step to knock out some power robbing pumps/fans.

So far with me making my own fuel and the 20+++ mpg I get now I am not in to bad a shape.

THeir fan controller you linked to has a 12 amp load limit ( i spent a lot of time reserching those critters and have a $400 one sitting around myself collecting dust that Spal decided couldnt handle the load they advertised it for about 3 months after I bought it ) but a 12 amp fan load is a very small fan load. i have my fans on 70 amp relays... each.
