Too many guys I work with (Railroad) have maxed out their credit lines/cards building up their new $50K+ truck to unrealistic standards, then want to SELL it for a profit The same fellas cry when the 1 offer they get (after 6 weeks on the market) is for less then a stock truck. Finally it ends 3 months later with a repo, bankruptcy, and divorce.If you've ever wondered why so many corner lots have a 3 month old truck fitting this description, you can thank my co-workers for their generosity.

And if you had bought a new truck every 5 yrs sense 95 you would be starting on your 4th $45000+ truck. That would work out to, if you got $15000 trade an you would have spent $90000 on the last three and be a year into your 4th $45000 truck! If you gave your truck away you would be $50000 ahead!

Those are the exact same words I have heard from my Dad. No matter what you do to it, its still just a 1993 ford pickup when you put the 'for sale' sign on it.
In fact, I heard those words when I was adding a turbo to my IDI. I thought I had it made though when I got a used turbo kit (complete minus exhaust) for $400. About $1000 later I'm still getting the kinks worked out of it. Hindsight is always 20/20 I guess...

Exactly, and No, you're not...I guess that means that we're all crazy.

The difference between us and the guys that spend all that money to find out it is not worth what they paid for the truck alone is that we know this already. We plan on using the truck and want to make it into what we want and need, not treating it like an investment to turn a profit.
It's not like we're talking classic vettes or GT500 shelby ya know? No matter what you do to your truck, it won't ever sell for what we have in it. But it's yours and that is what counts.

I think that the only time putting alot of work into a vehicle increases it's value is if you do some good bodywork and nice paint.

It is surprising, to me anyway, how many good mechanics run away from bodywork and paint. Sure it can be nasty work part of the time, but when it is all done and looks great, the satisfaction you get is huge.

I am really looking forward to getting my garage built down in TN. I can bring down engines from the north, drop em' in those solid southern trucks and cars, paint them in my garage, then sell them up north at my buddy's car dealership.
