makes a whole lot of sense, thanks brad. I might just use a single stage paint job if it is cheaper and more forgiving because lord knows I am not an absolute pro at body work. gonna have to call my dad and run some stuff by him and maybe I can get this figured out.

So do you think just anyone can tackle a paint job on a truck, or is it really something that a pro or at least an artist needs to do. I have done little painting years ago in highschool on tractors, but i dont want to do my truck if it wont look worth a shi*. But i have a steady hand, is that all i need?

I would try on something that you dont care so much about, Like a old hood or something. If you dont like how it turns out you will really hate how you truck turns out.

I am all for someone learning something new, but for what MAcco charges to paint a truck, you cant beat it

I don't know what part of Texas you are in, but here in Arkansas, the humidity makes single stage a nightmare. It can take weeks for the blamed stuff to cure, and yes, that is properly mixed. Even the body shops hate the stuff around here. I had to have a hood done with a factory single a while back and couldn't pick the darn thing up for near 2 weeks after they did it.to darned tacky to mess with.

With base /clear you can work your coats as you go and if there's a mistake you can fix it right away instead of having to set your calender for a repair date
If short on time, I'd stick with the base/clear. Especially if you're not used to shooting a lot, it's just too blamed easy to get a drip or orange peel and have to wait forever to fix it with a single stage.

one stage acrilic paint will shine and can have a deep gloss the same as clear coat in my opinion ,and nason makes a great low cost quialty products ,1 gal white ,1 pint high gloss hardener,gal med temp reducer less than 200 bucks ,if youre not a pro ,its the way to go.also with the 2 stage paint job after you paint and clear it if you break throught the clear coat when wet sanding ,it can be a mess to fix ,as with the single stage just re spray the area for any repairs and youre done ,p.s.brads correct clear coat does not peel when applied to tractors ...some of the best looking show trucks are single stage acrilic paint and if you keep it waxed it will last a century , reguards pwr stroke

yeah and I just called oreillys and they only offer the blue that I like in a base/clear.

I had two colors in mind for the blue the first was sn or sonic blue pearl metallic, the 2003 ford superduty color that ddc put on goldie its about 140 a gallon without my discount from oreillys

the second was 23u it is a 2000 corvette color called nassau blue metallic its about 110 a gallon without my discount from oreillys,

both are a medium blue with silver metal flake in them

Where can you drop a truck off and pick it up a day later and have the whole thing painted for 400? In "most" cases, it will be a better job than the average home mechanic will do on his own truck and still be cheaper

macco is what it is. take it or leave it. its a $400 paint job that will look good for a little while...

where is macco? I have never heard of it. Places around here quoted me 2000 to paint it black, and replace cab corners and floor panels. Thats the low end. Most are about 3-5 grand. Thats why i want to try it by myself kinda

yea the only cars i know of painted by them were falling apart in less than a year. i imagine it varies by who is doing it but the one around here does a terrible job.

thats what color my truck is and it looks more purple than blue
