I had to take the 86 in for a smog test. I guess it was an opacity test, max allowable percentage was 55% and I blew 57.8%. I'll admit the truck wasn't very warm, I started it up after sitting all day, drove it about 2 miles and let it idle for 20 minutes before testing. The tester said getting it good and hot out on the freeway would probably push it into passing range. I'm doubting his knowledge of diesels though since he tried to attach a probe to a spark plug wire. Do you think that would help though? The pump is ****** but my timing may be a tad retarded. I was also debating adding a can of seafoam to the fuel tank but cant really see how that would help with an opacity test.
I'm testing my 86, not my 93. The pump on the 86 has never been opened.
