I got a citation that doesn't cost me anything but filling out just why my truck was smoking while pulling a 6% grade with a load on.....cookoo:backoff This is the 4th time I have been cited and its getting hard to drive without thinking whos watching me. Twice it happened about 1/4 mile from my home at the same intersection. The fast idle hadn't even dropped out let. From now on I'm going to be "watching" for the treehugger thats watching me. Then I will turn them in just like someone has done to me. Everytime the notice tells me ....."An anonymous individualreported seeing a vehical emmitting excessive smoke on the following date, time and location"..... How can a rig like ours pull a 6% grade loaded and not put out some small amount of haze. I watch the tail pipe all the time so I know if I'm wasting fuel with smoke... Suxs to live in southern california these days.... Also guys... I'm not running the Moose pump when this is happening. I have the pensacola pump on the truck now and have for about 4 months. When I get ny new timing meter I will probably reinstall it and shim up the injectors. Then dyno it and post the results....

Move out of California. Here in north Florida we have no problem smoking the whole highway when I'm pulling the trailer with tractor and attachments on (10,000 pounds) with my '86 F-350. I had a '51 Chevy that I put some diesel in the gas tank by mistake once and I drove it from town to home with a huge cloud of white smoke after me all the way (I think some fellows may have been happy thinking I was some kind of exterminator for the mosquitos and bugs).:D It eventually clear when I filled it up again and burned the diesel in the gas. That was a beautiful little truck with a six in line and a four speed tranny. I really feel sorry for guys like us having to put up with all these crazy environmentalists in California. Personally I think of them as communists (that's one of the worst insults I can think of) with an agenda to destroy this country. I already had some kind of a boicot when buying things (don't buy things made in China and later from California either) after I saw some California cities with a boicot to Arizona, just because Arizona wants to protect itself from the illegal invasion and the drug trafficants. But that's just my opinion.
I hope you can find a solution to avoid any more citations from that pesky neighbor.
Burt.:D

Gary,

You can find this righteous person with only a little research. You already know the route you take, it is only a matter of deduction to find him/her/it. Once you do, you can call down the code enforcement people on him for a taste of his own medicine. Everyone has skeletons in their closet. If he doesn't, we can put one there. Need any help to set him up, call me.

Sooner or later we have to push back. Don't do anything illegal but by all means keep us posted if possible:backoff

Turning the sky black and intentionally rolling coal is one thing but you aren't doing that.

Texas has a "smoking vehicle program" and my bro and me have been reported I find it so rediculous i can just laugh but it is fairly annoying that someone has nothing better to do than stick their nose in everyone elses business.

You need a Hypermax smoke puff limiter or some other boost reference. We all know Cali has an agenda to ban all these older diesels or annoy people like you right out of the state. I wish we could get people to understand we have a right to drive these old trucks so long as they meet emissions standards that were applicable in the 80s and early 90s when they were built, which probably includes some smoke under heavy throttle and on startup. You can't expect it to meet 2010 CARB standards, I'm sorry that you as someone who isn't out to black out the sky has to put up with this crap.

funny thing about that. The county recently bout a whole bunch of new plow trucks to replace the old ones, and with all the new emissions crap on them they get a whopping 3-4 mpg. Great, they dont smoke and they burn twice as much fuel putting out twice as much exhaust doing the same job. Now the county cant afford to use their nice new emissions compliable trucks.

I call ******** on the new emission systems.

At first I thought it was a fluke once when I saw one or two 6.4 powerstrokes fogging mosquitos with their state of the art diesel particulate filters going into regen. Evedently its not because I am getting passed more often cruising at my speed and even at 55 MPH I can actually smell those things with half burned fuel pouring out the exhaust. Explain to me how that's good for the planet?

It all depends on what you are measuring and it seems the only thing you have eliminated with DPFs is the visible black smoke. They still pollute but now they get horrible fuel economy at the same time. But hey and emission regulation is good regulation, right?

Im stupid, I always thought fuel economy and reducing emissions went hand in hand. But I'm just a dumb Wisconsin farm boy who say his neighbors getting over 50 mpg in the 70s with their VW Rabbit diesels that went over 500K without trouble. That's why my folks got their 6.2 powered Suburban and got around 30mpg in that battle beast. Now if we get half that mileage with 3x the work, we are lucky.

Times are getting better I guess. Smell that? It's burnt **** and sarcasm

it's a toothless, piece of ******** feelgood paper. they can't do **** to you so why get worked up?:dunno
i used to get them on a regular basis on the towtruck thanks to my treehugger neighbors. I'm a commercial vehicle who has to pass a snap test and never had a problem passing. When I get a letter and if I feel like responding, I staple a copy of my test to it and send it back.
done.

Yeah, what a novel way to solve a ******* "problem". I've gotten behind flexfuel vehicles that made me sick to my stomach when I was in the Semi with the leaking filter.

I hear ya! Stay away from the rear of those flex fuel cars! They emit one heck of an odor going up hills

That's crazyness. You got LA street gangs, foreigners, and drugs running the city, but you've got manpower to bother people for tailpipe emissions. cookoo
