HELP! Fuel leak

Thought I smelled something, so I started looking around. The whole bottom passenger side corner of the core support mouint area, frame, lower part of the battery, overflow tank mount, etc. is coated in diesel fuel. Wiped everything down real good, and I got a leak all right, but I'll be darned if I can tell where it is coming from. I can't see the source, but I can see the drip. I also can't see where it is "flying in" from, thanks to Mr. Fan. The drop lands on the plastic skirt right over the frame rail next to the core support mount, and under the battery area. I'm sure the fan is blowing it, but I don't think it is slinging it. What in the devil is fuel doing up this far? I tried following the fuel line, but got lost in the ATF piping. Does anyone have a diagram of fuel flow? I don't think it is coming from the fuel filter drain, an this is too far forward.

Highest point has got to be the fuel filter... My guess is that is where it originated from. If it's been a while since you change your fuel filter, the big o-ring on the lid is prone to give out and cause a massive release of diesel. Maybe it is running along a tube/ hose/ wire till it reaches it's forwardmost destination.

Id say its from the fuel filter drain, the orings are probably not sealing common problem.
the end of the tube is about even with the pass side head

Alright. I'll double check that then. I replaced the fuel filter a couple of months ago. I got one that had an integrated cap. It didn't seem to be leaking at all up there, so the drain would be my best guess. There is no chance it is coming out of the cold side intercooler boot I hope. That would be weird if it was.

i had that problem, it was the fuel filter drain, Nick fixed it for me.

Well I didn't have time to mess with it, so I'm still driving around with the leak. Is there an easy way to stop up the drain to prove that is what it is? If is IS the drain, what is the correct fix?

Do what my friend did with his PS. Let a friend drive it and try to burn it up.

put a piece of hose on the tube and then plug it.
the o rings ya need are a #202

Anybody have a picture of a motor out of a truck, that I could see where this drain tube is? Damn thing is so stuffed in there.

Stick your head in the passenger side wheel wel. You will see the tube running down to the front of the cross member.

OK, so the first night I put a hose on it. Seemed to help a little.
Last night I replaced the valve. All $40 worth. Yea, I know all it needed were O-rings, but I'm not cheap.

What a pain in the frickin' butt to change that thing!

I had to unhook the IDM to get room for my tool to swing. What a bunch of wires and crap that is. I can't wait until they are 20 years old and brittle.

I see a lot of junk laying down in the V of the engine. Where is the turkey pan? What covers the lifters on this thing? Where does those acorns, leaves, nuts, junk and other crap that seems to be piling up down there go, and how do you clean it out?

I still have my doubts as to if this was my problem or not. There must be so much fuel laying some where that it is going to take a while to clear it out. I hope.....

Don't toss the old valve. Replace the o rings and toss it on the shelf. You might need it down the road.

The thing you unhooked for your tool, would be the glow plug control module. The ex has the electronic gizmo for the glow plugs.

Use your shop vac to clean the valley of death.

Really? That thing with the heatsink is glow plug related? What's the GPR for then? Is there a drain in that valley of death? where does it come out?

Well the verdict is in. That was NOT my problem. The passenger battery is still soaked in diesel, along with everything else in that area. ***! I'm ready to take a baseball bat to this thing.

MEl, I just had to change out a high pressure fuel hose on m dads 97. Goes from the fuel reg. to the heads. It was leaking LOTS of fuel though. His was the one on the pass. side. Just a thought. Not sure if the X has the same set up though.
