Hey everyone, i have a fuel leak in my valley pan, 7.3 idi, brand new injectors, lift pump and return lines, it’s not leaking from all of them i double checked, seems to be under the injector pump, i replaced it last december with a rebuilt one, is there a seal or o-ring under that can leak?

Yes you can have a seal leak there. You can use an inspection mirror and a light to look underneath the IP while the engine's running. Sometimes you can see a drip. You can also clean off all of the fuel from underneath the IP. Use brake cleaner, carb cleaner, etc. to clean the valley pan up. Use compressed air to dry it off faster. Then place a clean rag, paper towel, or something similar underneath the IP. Run the engine for a while and slowly pull out whatever you had underneath the IP. You can watch for wet spots to get an idea of where it might be leaking. It may be as simple as an olive on the line coming into the IP from the fuel filter.

Alright i’ll look at it, i swear it seems like it’s not leaking that much but for some reason i only have like 200km per fuel tank, seems like i should get more i don’t know where to look

Word of caution, DO NOT RUN YOUR FINGERS OR HAND AROUND A LEAK WHEN ENGINE IS RUNNING! High pressure fuel can be injected into your body. The out come is never nice.

I'm in a similar situation. Noticed a larger than normal black spot after parking and it seemed to be fuel that had washed oil off with it. I replaced all return lines and o-rings, no noticeable leaks while running, no drips visible, but after driving 30 minutes and sitting parked for 30+ minutes I find the same fuel/oil spot. If it is a pump seal I hope it's user serviceable.

hate to say it, but likely your rebuilder did not rebore the advanced, and those seals were not last very long under that condition

I’m late to this thread, but wanted to share that I had the same situation after buying a rebuilt injection pump. For me, the issue was the big o-ring that seals the head to the housing (stanadyne #27245). If the rebuilder isn’t careful they can push the head in too far during assembly, which will rip the o-ring every time. I watched a bunch of YouTube videos and ended up replacing it myself rather than sending it back to the rebuilder.

I recommend getting an inspection camera (endoscope camera) off of Amazon so you can look at the bottom of the injection pump with the engine running. That was the only way I could verify that the leak wasn’t coming from any of the injection lines, the weep hole, or the advance piston. Good luck and let us know what you find!
