Oh the shame! I took my truck to the car wash today. I could have easily spent another $2-$3 on it, but at least the road salt is off of the sides. I did get to look at this sweet looking old Thunderbird while I was at a gas station. Yes the sun was almost down and it was cloudy so the picture is kind of dark.

Currently 34°F out, tried firing er up after a cold soak overnight. Took a bit of cranking, glow plug relay was cycling a bunch. Probably have a plug or two burned out. Finally caught, definitely smokes a lot less and smoother on cold starts now.

Sheesh.

Edit,

Checked my glow plugs... For some reason 2 were unplugged, and 2 were dead. So that explains the rapid click and hard start.
Plugged the good ones in, unplugged the bad ones, fired right up easy as can be. Mild smoke cause two cylinders no glow plugs, but cleared out fast.

#8 glow plug was bad, which surprises no one....

Working on changing out my injectors. Checked the miles I wrote on the filter... Exactly 2000 miles they lasted.

Anyhow, found the culprit... #8... Something aint right....

Edit,

Got er running. Night and day difference. Plus back to about 18-20psi boost again. No smoke at all.
I have a feeling that #8 has been acting up for a while. It's always had a tough time starting and smoked badly at first.

Took the injector apart, the needle is completely locked up in the injector tip, its stuck open. So dunno what I'm gonna do with them.
Thats wild!! such a bummer you have had issues with reputable injector builders. Whos did you put in this time?

Yes it is. It means wash me "R"ight now! That's actually how I got the tailgate. I got a new aftermarket tailgate for a hood price years ago. I had to paint it though. It looked ok from a distance. It didn't take much to bend that cheap piece of crap. A friend had this one sitting around and told me that I could have it. It's been on there since 2016. I knew that it was better as soon as I picked it up. It's about twice as heavy as the aftermarket one was.

I put in R&D stage 1's I had reworked. Didn't plan on putting them in originally, but with this set messing up... Kinda had my hands tied.

So, figured out i have multiple fuel problems that didn't exist when I parked it. I put 10 gallons of fuel in the rear to work on starting it and ended up having to catch a third of it in a bucket so...... I am here getting some nice new replacements

Did you go for the 38g rear tank for $170? Best thing I ever did. I go over 1000 miles now between fill ups when the front and rear tanks are full

i Have the factory tanks but I also have a 100 gallon reserve tank in the bed. If I figure right I can get about 2200 miles, or about one week of idle time running my power inverter. We use it for my sons medical power when we have power outages. never gonna get rid of that old thing. getting steering box put in this month. Gonna park the Ram 1500 for the winter.

Swung by oreilys and picked up two new glow plugs. $17.99 each, and they're genuine. Kind of surprised they had real ones.

Also, got off the phone with Justin ar R&D, he's gonna repair the Russ built injectors for me at cost.

I pulled all the old, splice-filled fuel lines out, replaced the rubber line from the hardline to the fuel pump, and ran new nylon line from the front tank directly up to the pump and return. I plan on installing an electric pump to transfer from the rear tank into the front.
