I am getting the last of the wiring on my truck put back together. What does this red wire coming off of the hot side of the starter solenoid go to? I have a 3 post starter solenoid.

Wire is outlined with purple.

Thanks!

Do you have a wire going to your starter solenoid

I have the big positive wire going direct from the battery and a small ground wire from the solenoid to the starter. The black wire on the right most post goes down to the starter. I included an old picture of how my starter was wired.

I agree...someone added a fused wire off of a B+ source...

(B+ equals 12 volts DC)

Follow that wire and see where it goes...
The black wire coming off the splitter(?) is attached to a yellow wire. The yellow wire joins in with the rest of the loom for the trucks harness. Anyone know what that yellow wire coming off the harness is for?
The red wire in an old picture I have shows it going back towards the cab.

It’s been a long project and I felt like I would remember what goes where at the time of disassembly

Here’s the two pictures from before I took the truck apart if they help at all. The big red wire going from the positive terminal towards the blower motor is an amp wire.

Here is your 1986 wiring diagram. It shows a yellow/white wire coming from the alternator, a black/orange wire feeding the whole truck and the alternator, a red wire if you have the trailer option wiring, and a yellow wire if you have the cruise control option. All of these wires are on the large lug on the solenoid that goes to the battery +.

You should definitely get that extra wire off of the fusible link. That's a big time no no right there!

Assuming you’re talking about the red wire in question, I will remove it and wire it separately if I can figure out what it was supposed to go to. Thanks!

I realized I never mentioned that the other end of that wire is cut off and loose and I have no idea what it could have gone to before I took the truck apart almost 2 years ago.

Thank you. Electrical is something I’m still very new to so I will need some time to figure this one out.

If it is after market I don’t know what accessory it could have gone to. All add ons I currently have are wired up. I may just disconnect it and see what doesn’t work if anything.

It is definitely NOT from the factory. Ford didn't use that type of fuse holder on our trucks. Since it wasn't attached to anything, go ahead and get rid of it.
