Now that it's light I went out and looked. The springs seem to be pretty flat. They slope down toward the front. The rear eye is 22" above the ground, the front eye is 15" above ground. They are obscured by the frame from the inside, and most of the middle is obscured by the tires from the outside, but there isn't any obvious curve to the top of the spring pack.

Thank you very much.
Mine is a retired ambulance. Very low miles. Still very old. But I have no real rust underneath and the springs look to be in good condition. Just a big curve. It has had the curve since before I loaded it up with my tools and parts. I do not believe I am overloading it.

I got a 5 gallon aluminum air tank, to add an air compressor. It'd probably be easier to fix the slow leak in the inboard left dual tire, but here I go anyway...

It looks as if there's room to mount the tank on the side of the frame amidships. That will mean drilling 4 holes through the side of the frame, two pairs about 18" apart, each pair spaced about 4" apart vertically. The holes will be within a couple inches of the top and bottom of the frame rail, not in the center.

Does that sound like a bad idea?

No it doesn't sound like a bad idea. I mounted a compressor to my frame, any years ago. I never had a problem with it.

Planning to have the compressor in a compartment, to keep it cleaner. I figure I'll have a quick disconnect for the air line running to the tank, and an Anderson SB50 disconnect for the compressor, and be able to take it out and use it with another vehicle. Still waiting on a relay and pressure switch to finish getting the compressor ready to use. I'll post up some pictures of that when I have it done.

They make small air compressors used for on board air bag levelers. I have a Firestone branded unit on my truck and a 1 gal compressor, both mounted on the inside of the drivers frame rail right behind the t case. Been there for a few years no issues.

Ive drilled the frame for my hitch, rear bags, a remote mount fuel filter, my air compressor tank and the air compressor itself. Frame still holds strong.
