Can I replace my CDR valve with an oil catch can?

I don't have any pictures but if your on the facebook IDI group search my name (Isaac Ristow) then type crankcase breather that should pull it up. I have a donaldson crankcase filter off a school bus with a T444e (7.3 powerstroke) that's plumbed into my RTD and it separates all the foggy fumes out and the smell. No oil in my turbo or intake and no clouds or smell I love it

While on the subject, what do you guys think. Should there be any problems running the provent200 together with the original cdr valve? While i installed the intercooler, i installed a provent also. Summer went and didn't notice any problems. Then winter came and suddenly oil cooler is leaking oil, valve covers are leaking too. Oil cooler seals are probably original, valve cover seals about 13 years old. Seals are old so is it just a coincidence that i have oil leaks or could it be something to do with provent and the additional valve it got? On the plus side there were no oil residue inside the intake with it. I also tried Mishimoto high-flow universal diesel breather. Just because it doesn't have any additional valves in it, but with that Misihimoto, there is some oil residue again inside intake... So what do guys think?

Personally, I would gut/bypass the cdr and run just the catch can. (With it ran back to the intake)

Maybe i'll give it a try and gut the old cdr i have laying around and put back the provent again, since it does better job than Mishimoto. Even though it's a real pain to change oil cooler seals that i'm doing at the moment... Looking at the o-ring condition though, i'm surprised it lasted this long...

Oil coolers are very easy just pull the power steering pump off with the bracket and they slide right out the front. It's a messy job but not really hard. Make sure your kit doesn't have the metal/rubber gasket they leak you want the paper gasket

Yes, mostly annoying job because of messiness and with all the cleaning. I thought of taking ps pump off, but then lifted the engine from drivers side. Hopefully i'll get it back on during next weekend and with paper gaskets...

That's exactly how I have mine set up for what it's worth.

Good to know! After resealing, i think i'll try the provent again, since it does its job better than mishimoto...

I made a catch can using a Goldenrod filter. There is an option to use a stainless strainer instead of the paper filter.

Can I run a hose from the valley opening to this goldenrod filter straight out of the box with the right size pvc fittings? Then upgrade it to stainless steel mesh on the inside and route the output hose into the intake manifold? Thank you.

In my experience it doesn't take all that much heat to deform PVC. I would choose something more durable. Even the plastic heater hose connectors deform and begin to get gooey from the hot coolant.

I would recommend using metal lines to run the vent on. Pvc doesn't like heat or oil very much.

I like the idea of the provent, but it looks like the hose size is only about 1/2 inch while I believe the cdr is 1 inch.
Is 1/2 inch going to provide enough flow?

Also I've seen videos saying that you don't want to route the fluids back to the engine because they contain some nasty things. I'd probably run it to a container big enought so it would only need draining when you did an oil change.

You must be looking at the wrong provent then. They're 1".

Look through the thread for Diego and you'll see what I did. Including the last oil change and how much it pulled out. Link is in my signature or search for "Diego revisited".

Thanks cillman88. I'll do more hunting.
There was a link to one earlier in this thread. I believe it said 12.5mm

Just took a better look at the ad. The 12.5 mm was the return line. The hose lines are 25 mm.
My bad.
May have to get myself a xmas present :)
