Ok after fiddling around with this thing again.. I've got to have a short. I have power and ground BOTH at the ipr yellow/red wire, power and ground BOTH at a few others as well and I'm pretty sure it was one of my pcm key on power wires too.. my problem is I still cannot find where anything is shorting anywhere. I just put a new ignition switch in as well, just in case that was the simple pain in my ass this whole time, which it wasnt. And I've been tracing wiring and whatnot again also and cant find it. Anyone have any ideas on what sensors, switches, components have a tendency or rarely short out that maybe I'm missing?

have you tried disconnecting the engine harness at the driver side valve cover and see if the pcm will boot right, this would tell you if there is a short or issue on the engine with a sensor etc.
also try unplugging the IDM same thing will eleminate that as a suspect.

Whatever the problem is, is before the engine sensors. I disconnected the 42 pin and still the same thing happens.

try unplugging the fuel pump posible short there,
ruled out a lot of stuff disconnecting the engine harness.

Well, I'm out of my element apparently on this truck and I cannot find a damn thing so, unfortunately I'm gonna bite the bullet and take it to a shop

I will let everyone know the outcome when I get it to a shop and they find the problem. This is the VERY FIRST time and hopefully the only time that I've taken a vehicle to a shop because I cant do it myself or figure the problem out myself.. I'm not happy

Hang in there and don’t beat yourself up too much: sometimes you just need a second set of eyes or some outside perspective. Electrical issues can be tough, you’ve definitely gone through a lot of solid troubleshooting steps. Lots of knowledge on this forum and nobody pointed out anything you hadn’t already done or weren’t willing to try.

Thank you for the kind words, it really does aggravate me no matter how hard I try not to let it. Lol. I'm very mechanically inclined but I absolutely hate wiring/electrical

amazing that you went from no 4x4 to a no start. Something shorted when you switch the GEM. I know it's at the shop now but it's gotta be something along the lines of playing with the GEM module.

I know it doesnt make any sense. And it doesnt matter if I put the original gem back in either. Only thing with that is 4x4 doesnt work again and no start.. I've just ran out of brain capacity for this thing. I've done so much research, I've listened and tried so many ideas from everyone here and other groups, this thing just plain has me stumped and honestly if I didnt already have a lot of money wrapped up in it, it would have been long gone. I can assure you all though, this is the last vehicle I'll ever own with esof!

These power strokes are impressive engines, but problems like these sure make mechanical engines attractive. Hope the shop can put some fresh eyes on it and sort it out quickly, keep us posted.
