How is the 980 compared to the 985?

Looks like about $60 extra for the vibration dampener. Any issues without it, do you get any feedback through the wheel when turning?

It’s really smooth. No issues without the rag joint. Nice and tight.

I went the cheaper route.
a splined u joint to the gear box, and a DD u joint to the column.
140$

Does the 980 shaft also fit my '93 (with tilt)?

Edit: Looking on Amazon, it says the 981 fits a '92-'96.

I have one in the box, ready to go on. Got some other stuff to fix first though.

I bought a 2010 expedition about 3 weeks ago for a daily driver and I have been busy fixing all the little stuff and putting in a sound system, so the truck has been sitting.

Always wondered why I could never tighten up my steering like newer trucks. Has had a slight wondering since I've owned it. Probably the rag.

The guy I bought the '91 from used to pull a 5th wheel thru the mountains with it. My first drive I was white knuckled even with nothing behind it, from like 10:30 to 1:30 on the wheel there was nothing. IDK how this guy kept it on the road but it was the first part I changed. I looked all over for a new shaft never finding one till I realized the rag joint was superseded by the U joint type, well worth the money and effort it drives like new now nice and tight.

PS mine wasn't the rag it was the spring in the telescoping slip joint was broken + the joint just wore out.

Got tired of dropping my cigars and forty’s on long hauls from the 3/16 to 1/4 turn of steering play

Next is the 33 gallon tank upgrade
