Is it just the power to the IP which is not there? That's the only thing affected? If that's the case, that it is ONLY the IP, you can run a wire from the battery positive to the front terminal, the one closest to the radiator, on the IP. Once that is hooked up you start as you normally would. In order to shut the engine off you will have to disconnect that wire. This is a temporary solution, and will not correct other things which have no power, so be sure of what is not working before you start driving.

Did you check the power wire to the alternator? That's a fusible link. I did the same thing as you while replacing my alternator last fall. The local Car Quest store usually has the 1G alternators on the shelf, but you'll get different pulleys. The spot that the power wire attaches to is in a different location too. Looking at the front, it's at about 4:00. I used to not disconnect this wire from the power while replacing the alternator. The alternator slipped out of my hand while removing the bad one and burned out the power wire. I replaced it with more fusible link that I ordered off of Ebay. After you find the burned fusible link, you could install a fuse. Then if you don't like it, you can replace it with more fusible link later.

I posted the above because once I had the same power wire burn itself in two, but not burn the insulation (I have no idea how that happened). I didn't have power too the FSV on the IP until I replaced it.

The front wire on the driver's side should be red and green. It turns on the fuel for the injection pump. It is right next to the fuel line brass port and is on the top cover.

The rear wire on the driver's side is the cold advance

The wire on the left side in front is the high idle. It's a small solenoid.

The only fusibles that I could find on mine were at the ends of the double wire (one ring connector -two links going into one wire...IIRC) that goes between the glow plug controller and starter relay (Right fender), and the starter relay to engine wiring harness (I think it goes all the way 'round to the "distribution box"...at Left fender-well)

Although, some of those might have been change or deleted by the PO?

AND YES...Mr. DGR is right on the money with the hot-wire to solenoid, just have to pop the hood to start-n-stop the motor.
Hope this helps....

@IDIBRONCO very interesting. Doesn't make a lot of sense but I have no doubt it happened. That wire shares the battery connection at the starter relay right? Anything getting power from the alternator should be getting it directly from the battery.

Ok guys here it is: I went ahead a threw a jumper to the front solenoid wire from the battery and VOILA! It runs, so now to figure out where my short is. I’m thinking it might have something to do with the GP relay. Thank you guys so much! There really isn’t another forum that even compares!!!

This diagram is for a 1986, but I just looked at a 89 diagram and it is the same thing. This one is easier to read on the computer. You can see all that stuff under the hood that is dead on your truck is fed by one wire, a red/lightgreen and it has it's own fusible link.

Look at the left middle of the diagram below. You will see that fusible link that was in the previous diagram, and where it comes from. It comes from the ignition switch.

So if your heater blower motor works when you turn the key on, then you know you have power to the keyswitch. If it doesn't work, then you know your power problem is upstream from the keyswitch.

Blower works real good, so I ran a switch to the IP.... here’s the kicker: the 12 wire connector on the passenger side looks like it got real hot .. so I’m gonna take it apart and clean it....... 20 hours of working on it I’m gonna give up and take a break

Let forget about what works and what doesnt.

Go to the starter relay on the fender, first unhook batteries, take the batt cable off the relat, see those ring terminals with wires going to the truck???
Pull on those individual wires, gently but firmly, one or more will stretch like a rubber band, theres your burnt fusible link.
And only 92 up have the distribution box.
