So what did you do with your truck today?

Well.... Somehow, it's working. How long, though... we'll see.
After my FX15 compressor(original R12 setup) on my '93 decided to give up it's seals, and some experimentation, I've got something working!
I've got a FS10 compressor from the JY, replaced the orifice tube with one *not* covered in teflon bits(surprisingly no oily "black death").
And, because I wasn't using R134A, I needed a different lube... ATF time! (I tried some actual AC mineral oil once on another FX15 setup, but it was way too thick and didn't lube the compressor).

It's been working nicely for a week now, so... I'm happy not to have to spend several hundred doing a proper replacement and upgrade!
Just an update on this. I may have started a bit low on charge(it will cycle when it gets higher RPM; wanted to reduce strain on the high side of things until I got it dialed in), but it's still producing coldish air. Since I made the original post, I've driven two 8+hour days cross country and one 4.5 hour day... and it just kept working! Overall, I'm happy.
Probably going to pull the orifice tube again and replace it just cause(hopefully it will have already caught most of the random bits throughout the system), then refill and go.

I got the truck back from the shop today. Got the driver side window motor replaced, new transfer case put in, new headlights (switched from IPCW clears to ANZO clears, I'll post comparison photos when I have time), the trans cooler in the radiator is hooked up now, the AC works for the first time in the 6 years I've owned it (now converted to 134A), and lastly... the Powermaster 9050 starter is finally in! It cranks SO FAST now, it was shocking. Video of that also when I have time :D

A lot of stuff I could have done myself, but tbh I just don't have the time or motivation to deal with it right now. And I know I'd have gotten stuck on about 100 different small things, what took them 2 days would've taken me at least a month, and who knows what else I'd have broken in the process. My wallet is lighter now, but I have cold air so I don't care :D

I’m finding the older I get the more problems I solve with my checkbook. I guess that’s the natural progression.

Ain't that the truth! Not sure if we're more financially secure, smarter, lazier, or combination of the three. In one sense it's comforting to know you have the ability to solve the problem via actually performing the task at hand while reserving the option to pay others. However, armed with both the ability and the coin sometimes results in scrutiny of those providing the service..... On more than one occasion I've found myself "biting lip" after paying someone to perform a task I'm well acquainted with while having critical thoughts regarding their price or method.

Combination i'm sure. I've had mixed results paying for work on the IDI. If its not a very straightforward job unfortunately i'm finding out the old saying "if you want it done right, do it yourself" applies. I've had to re-do some work I paid for.

The only exception is my front-end guy I think I paid him around $1000 in labor to install new leaf springs, shackles, shocks, steering box, tie rods - the works, plus an alignment. He did it right the first time, and that was worth every penny.

The problem I always had is finding someone who even has a clue anymore. If you can't plug a computer into it and the computer tell you what to do, most "techs" don't have a clue.

The older our trucks get, the fewer "qualified" people out there!

I didn't do it as I know nothing about body work but I had it done for me, had rust cut out of fenders and repaired. I did provide the supplies, paint and will be waxing it. Does that count?

Drove mine to work and put fuel in it. First time since the last fuel stop coming home from the rally. Not driving it much.
