We've had an unusually late fall, and it's been really warm. We just got our first cool night. It was -10F this morning.

As I pulled onto the main road, the fuel filter light came on, then it lost power, then it died, all in a few tens of seconds. At the road side, I tried putting some Power Services red bottle in the filter, then tried bleeding the lines. Couldn't get anywhere.

After I got it back in the yard, I put in a new fuel filter prefilled with diesel. I put a cup or so of Power Services white bottle in each tank, then bled the lines. It started, and I hope I'm back in business. The only remaining question is whether there are ice crystals in the tank which will again plug the filter.

I guess the moral of the story is to change your filter early, and start using anti-gel and anti-ice additives early.

Here in Cali, everyone starts using their block heaters when it’s around 40 F. Can’t stop laughing over that one LOL.

Just the other day, I wore a full-body blue-man skin suit for Halloween. All my Calif friends were like "You're going to freeze your butt off."

I said, "I grew up in Wisconsin. This 60-degree Los Angeles weather is nothing. You are lucky I'm not just wearing a **** cloth."

Yep, I love the temperature perspective from different parts of the country. I’m in Central Indiana, so it can push 100 F in the summer, and we have times of 0ish F in the winter.

I,prefer it cooler, so the 100 crap sucks, especially since it’s also humid here. I just finally broke my jeans out a couple weeks ago, when it was staying in the upper 40’s.... I’ve only been wearing a light jacket for about a week. That’s normally just in the morning...... I dig my heavy coat out when it stays below freezing. I might zip it at 0 if the wind is blowing......

At least the freakin ground squirrels didnt chew through your fuel line !
Thats what I get for running straight Veggie Oil. Think i will have to switch to braided steel lines or straight copper or aluminum and or dose my fuel with Tabasco Sauce lol !

Come spring, when it warms up to -10F, we're going to be shedding our winter coats.

The day after my truck died, my friend and fellow IDI owner texted me that he had had the same thing happen to him.

I start plugging in around freezing, although it will start when it's colder than that. After I bled the injector lines, I finally got around to getting the oil changed. I use Rotella 5W-40 synthetic for my winter oil. I should have put that in back in September, but this late fall caught me off guard.
