define "core"
my definition of a core motor is one that needs to be rebuilt.
it was pulled out of service due to excessive blowby and/or excessive oil consumption.
if a motor was pulled out of service due to overheating, those are considered junk since the heads would require an excessive amount of money to repair/rebuild.
normally I hold core motors around for about six months and then I will pull the motor apart where I keep the tinning, rockers, front/rear covers, fuel pump eccentric, oil cooler, oil pickup tube and dipstick tube. the remaining contents of the block and heads is sold for scrap.
No warranty is given on the core other than a best guess that the motor is rebuildable. Every effort to make sure oil stays where it is supposed to be and no water went down the intake has been done and the rotating assembly still turns.
in short, it's a free motor. It's not a total piece of ****, but don't for a moment think you can regasket it, bolt it in and go. you will have to do machine work to it that I'm not willing to do.
