Wiring looms, opinions and suggestions.

I've got my wires through the firewall today!
The old CPU port made things pretty clean IMO.

Now
What is your opinion on the best way to
Protect the wires?

Thought about that plastic chincy wire loom,
Or
3/4" heater hose,
Wanted to pick your brain and maybe come up with a better way.

Personally, I like the split loom since it makes bends smoothly. The signal stat wiring on the back side of the Enterprise was done in hose...freggin garden hose. Holds well, but looks like crap and doesn't make bends well. Would be difficult to get back into to trace a wire or track down a problem in the future.

I'd go with split loom. It does the job and is more maneuverable. Don't buy it at the parts store though, lowes or home depot has it for way less. Not that it's expensive. .. I'm just a tight ass

mesh sleeve style looms are the best, I hate split looms and the spiral junk

I have used some stuff like jwalterus described, it's made of string and has a tar like coating. You have to put it on the wire before the connectors.

the plastic split loom is garbage IMO.
i hate dealing with that stuff.

heater hose, as posted is hard to route.

ive also used irrigation tube, the thin stuff, that worked ok, but still plastic.
in my boats, i use the clear tube, run all my wires, and then silicon both ends.
not too worried about getting into the loom, as this is bran new wire, and most of it are " home runs"

ive never used the mesh loom, sounds like thats the ticket.

the unsplit stuff, does it work kinda like Chinese finger traps?

Honneycomb loom looks/works rad. My pic also.
Check industrial elect supply for fuel rated polyvinyl loom stuff, I forget the actual name its supple and tough.

they also have smaller kits, this one would do the whole truck

and yes on the chinese finger trap-ness, in a way.......... it's a mesh braid with set diameters like convoluted tubing aka split loom, slide wires through, when you need to poke one out (say a GP harness), you just stick it out between the mesh, makes for a very clean wiring setup


one thing I saw in a local car, guy had literally braided his wires together and coated the whole thing with clear liquid electrical tape, was slicker'n snot

I vote for patterned duct tape.
