Oh well: new Napa GP controller is faulty.
They will swap for another controller or, refund my money.
Think I'll spend the extra $ and get the Ford unit.
Last Ford controller lasted 23 years, I'll may be worm food in five.

Didn't mean to ruin your day with that depressing post.

If I had known, I might have saved a set of glow plugs and alternator had I been watching that voltage like a hawk and had the disconnect tools handy. Turning the key off only depowered the voltmeter.

I caught it red handed the second time. Lost two brand new glow plugs.

I figured it best to post, for others may have had the same experience, or it may be nothing more than a coincidence. The collateral damage was quite expensive for me.

Very disappointed:
The GP Controller on the right that (waited two days for) is 'exactly' like the unit from Nappa that costs $60 less. The Napa unit was bad 'out of the box' and the plastic protection cover wouldn't fit. Thankfully Napa refunded my money.
The OE unit on the left (lasted 23 years) has full epoxy underneath AND more circuitry.
Fingers crossed the more costly "Motorcraft" part works... at least the plastic cover fits the Motorcraft unit.
