What to do to a truck thats been sitting before starting?

as many of you know im picking up a 89 f250 tommarow or thursday. Its been sitting for a year or two. Batteries still have a little charge in them. What should i do to it before trying to start it?

Check cables, charge batteries, change fuel filter and add diesel treatment of your choice, fill tank with fresh diesel and run.

Wouldn't be a bad idea to take some ether too, just in case.

im sure it will take some either to get her going. im gonna take 5 gallon of fresh fuel and a gallon of treatment. fuel filter looks brand new but im sure its a year old as its been sitting for a while.

i would throw some diesel 911 in the tank to help with any bad fuel if there is and it wouldnt hurt it any.

If you can test the glow plugs for continuity and verify that the glow plug circuit is working correctly, I wouldn't use any ether. If you do use ether, make sure you disable the glow plugs to avoid any disaster. What I would definitely suggest is making sure you have two good batteries, keeping in mind that you really have to spin these motors pretty hard to get them to start. Also, I wouldn't spin the starter for more than 15-20 seconds at a time and let it cool sufficiently or you will toast the starter and/or cables. I would keep checking all the electrical connections for anything getting hot.

Remember: its not a gasser.

thanks. whats the easiest way to disable the gps? just unplug the bullet conectors?

that should work they probley will break but its a easy fix just did mine with female bullit connectors

Just turn on the key when you get the batterys in,let the GPs cycle then leave the key on. Gave them a minute to cool-If you never turn the key off & back on they won't heat again.

dont put 911 in the tank unless it is frozen! 911 isnt designed to help old fuel, just thaw it. to much can hurt the IP.

check the oil, trans if auto, and stomp on the brake pedal. make sure all them are full and good before starting it. fill filter with atf or fresh fuel, and fire it up.

Take a A B C rated fire extinguisher with you, never know if mice got to some wiring you can't see.

Personally, I'd want to put fresh filters on it for oil and fuel before cranking. No telling how old they are, and the glue in them is not designed to last more than a year. BE sure to fill the new oil filter to the brim before you install.
