What the ???? Clutch/Flywheel Kit

Hey guys, my brother purchased this clutch/flywheel kit from a guy online a few days ago thinking it was the OEM Valeo 12" clutch and dual mass flywheel kit used in the factory turbo trucks. The big brown truck dropped it off today and it aint no DMF kit. WTH is it? Is this a Valeo SMF kit? I didn't even know they made them? My brother gave $440 for it so he didn't do bad regardless. The clutch disk is the craziest thing I've ever seen! It has two spring packs in it and actually has a separate moving mass inside the springs like a DMF. The disk is Kevlar BTW. Overall I'd say he got an awesome deal on a even more awesome kit but he's worried about the adverse affects of running a SMF on a ZF5spd. I've heard the nasty gear rollover and harmonics transferred into the transmission can destroy a ZF and if that doesnt the overfilled transmission case very well could. What are your thoughts?
And has anyone seen one of these by Valeo?

It looks like he got a complete smf kit for $440 , good deal With the 12 and 12 1/4" you get the 2 rows of springs and actually get more dampening springs than you did with the DMF so the whole rollover noise thing is really not an issue. If you have the 11" then you only get 4 springs and I can see that getting noisy.
That is not, by the way, a kevlar clutch. That is a kevlar blend. Most clutch makers pawn off kevlar blends as kevlar clutches, but only the small handful of yellow fibers you see mixed in with the standard organic lining material there are the actual kevlar fibers, if it was 100% kevlar like mine, the whole thing would be yellow, still, it will last a bit longer than a standard organic lining .

Pop that sucker on and fill the tranny with some 30 wt synthetic ATF and go with it
Don't forget the blue locktite on the flywheel bolts.

question in regaurds to clutches. does it matter if i have a 11" clutch and then go to a 12" clutch? any issues with that, any extra parts needed? i was thinking of getting the same clutch because my dnf is making all kinds of noise and i want it gone

Do we need to fill the tranny all the way to the top with oil like we did my moms when we were running a lucky mod flywheel? Or just fill it to the normal level?

Subliminal, all you would need is what my brother bought here. He got it from a seller on ebay. I'll find the link later today and post it. Also, buy the kevlar pilot bushing, those metal POS's last about as long as it takes for me to get out of my driveway. You can buy them from southbendclutch.com

The first box looks like the standard clutch kit that Ford sells (made by the same people). Never seen a flywheel like that before. As for SMF damaging the ZF, I've yet to experience it myself, and my Ford diesel tech friend has never seen it ini all his years. As for the need for springs, I'm about to find that out. I'm doing a lucky mod with a solid friction disc in the Moosestang.

Never fear Mel, That flywheel looks almost identical to my flywheel . I don't know who made the thing, I got it second hand, but it came from southbend origanally .
The thing works basically fine, although there seems to be a problem with the ones from Southbend that requres use of an adjustable clutch rod if you want the things to ever go into gear properly. I thought it was just on this one because the previous owner had roached the thing( in only 50k miles with a southbend clutch, and no, he doesn't drive like a kid) and non of the local shops would touch it so he bought a new one. I took it to my heavy diesel shop and they put in on a mill and had to take off some material and I thought that was the reason it needed an adjustable rod, but even the brand new one really needed one to go into gear properly.

Now a lucky mod with a solid disk??? that is going to be chatter central .Are you sure you want to do that? Somebody tried that...about a hundred years ago. Thy found out it was a bad idea. That's why we have springs now

Bolts right in MatJ. I would not recommend overfilling the trans. foamy oil does not make good lubrication.
I got my Kit from the warehouse that I get my automatic parts from, Valeo box. all Luk parts inside. If your engine is in good tune the rollover will be at a minimum. And AFAIK it wont hurt anything.

I like your experimental spirit Mel, but I've got to say I think you should probably get a new clutch kit with the springs from Ft Wayne as it's really cheap and I can't believe how much better the pedal effort and overall clutch grip feel is. I think mine was like $140 shipped, best money I ever spent.
