Is that the part that guys use to convert to a RDT?
If so, banks gets like $5 a piece for them.......yeah 5 bucks
......so I'll take 20

Yeah thats the gear adapter for CDR relocation or a RDT. Looks like much better metal than Banks' stuff. I wonder if they even make them anymore.

he had a slab big enough to make four. there's enough material to make three more. Unlike Banks, this one was milled and the tube welded on. there's a plating shop next door to him, so the shinny appearence is from nickel plating.
we did a quick time calc afterwards.....now we understand why overseas is kicking our butts in the mfg dept

I paid $20.29 for the part from Banks in 2004...with tax and shipping, ended up being $29.93. Yes, I still have the receipt

so how much did he spend on making it? if you can sell it for like $20 make some more. i might buy one, or see if i can trade one for one of these

With a total of 4 hours into the part, not including materials and plating, his labor cost would push the cost above $100. Yup....yowch. We have the equipment, the materials, and the clients, what we don't have is a means to produce the stuff at a quantity level that would bring down the cost of production. But we do have some pretty trick fab work on our trucks that you can't run down to the corner store to buy

i don't get it. sure it's pretty, but I just wire welded a 3/4inch pipe elbow on that same plate.

I'm sure there's a easier way. but here's the thing. He was bored and wanted a challenge. I gave him the Banks part and told him to go copy it
That was the result.
Nice job. Good to know somebody has the ability to make them, even at $100 a piece if we needed it. I suspect the Banks part is a one piece casting, that is then machined. This would be much faster than producing one from a billet. Can anybody cast some blanks? I get blank 1/8" scale railroad wheels and they ARE $5 a piece, so if we could get these for $5, that would be sweet. All that would be needed would be to drill a few holes.
