wellman or motorcraft?

Time for some new glow plugs. I have Beru...burnouts. My (brand new) controller solenoid reads 10.xx volts clear out to the glow plug connectors...
With the key OFF. Any ideas / suggestions?
Anyhoo...I can afford motorcraft zd9 or Wellman plugs. Anyone using the Wellmans?

Tried both wellmans; the 080 is the direct drop in replacement. That resulted in every tip falling off and me planning a rebuild when the plugs stayed on for too long. I bench tested a wellman 088 and that resulted in the tip swelling up to about 5/16" before finally dying.

They are crap and may cost you an engine but if you insist on trying them at least test them before putting it anywhere near your engine.

I failed a set of berus due to a failed controller and they all came out in tact with no harm done to the engine.

With a 7.3 style system, Berus are the only real way to go.
I've had no issues with the 088's in 3 trucks besides my own in the last 5 years other than an incident where I left my truck at a friends place for a few days and they in a drunken stupor attempted to start it and failed the glows as well as killed the battery...
I have no sweet clue how long they must have held them on, as I have personally burned them in excess of 30 seconds on -30 days with no ill effects.
BUT, all of the trucks mentioned run manual glows, I think the after glow cycling of the stock system is what is hardest on the glows.

ran wellmans for years... no problems.... I like them and beru (motorcraft) equally.... wouldn't shy away from 'em.

On an '89 7.3 N/A with properly working controller, I installed a fresh set of Wellmans... The first failure occured three days later, and within two weeks three more failed. The tips stayed on and didn't swell, but as far as I'm concerned they aren't worth the cost of the fuel burned to get up to the parts store. Installed Beru's about two or three weeks later (Oct. '09) and they have performed flawlessly ever since...

beru's with a manual gp set up (the best) imo. Po had autocraps in there and from what i've heard the wellmans swell up just as bad. YOU DO NOT want to try to finesse a stuck gp out. It sucks and takes a really long time.

I've personally never had an issue with the 088 wellmans, like I said, all of them ended up burnt out in my truck, not one swelled. Personally anything using a 7.3 style system with single coil plugs gets Berus, nothing else, 6.9 style system, I've had good luck with the Wellmans, BUT, I'm not going to push them on anyone, the Berus are a known quantity, they work.

I have not tried the Wellman's My self but have always used beru and they always work with out inconvenient.

I would go with the motorcraft. I havent tried the wellmans BUT I havent had any reason to.
