Smugmug did this to me a few years ago. Sucked major balls, cause my computer had crashed so they had the only copies of a bunch of family memories. Lesson learned and now run a backup external hard drive that mirrors certain files and updates nightly.

Google seems like the safest bet for hosting. I don't see them going anywhere anytime soon.

It took about an hour and a half to get all my photos off of Webshots last night. They are all on my computer, but I don't have any time to upload them again to a different host site. Sucks. Maybe one of these days I can but like Darrin, I have a bad taste in my mouth about the whole process now and will likely not bother.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned just making PDFs of everything. Open a thread, hit print (with one of dozens of free PDF writers) and a few seconds later you have it all in one easy file. It would be a bit more cumbersome, but the PDF could be then emailed to others who need the information.

Would anyone care to post links of their threads that have helpful pictures so it's easy to find and save them? The tech articles are easy, finding all of the helpful posts that only come up in a search when you need the info is harder.

This is easily the best solution. If a collective could do this, then they would at least be preserved. I'm very sorry for coming to the game late on this, and yes it does look like there was a bit of notice, but I have been too busy to get on-line for fun yet alone for projects re-doing the hours I put into them originally. What would be really nice, is if someone could take all the tech articles, put them in a book, and then make it available. I bet people would donate a few bucks to whomever did it as a way to repay them for their trouble. One possible way they might be preserved is through the wayback machine. http://archive.org/web/web.php not sure how viable that is or not.

I have almost all the tech articles copied into M$Word. By count I think I'm missing 3. I also have 5, I believe, in which the pictures simply did not copy, and there were too many to do an immediate copy and paste. I've got another two days to work on this. I'll make it.;Sweet

These things are taking up an ungodly amount of space, I think over half a Gb.:puke:

I can change them all to pdf format without too much trouble. That can be done later.

WIKI Articles??? I can't even remember where they are. Somebody better point them out with a direct link, please. I'll take a look at that point. The five I have left in the tech section will be labor intensive, moving one picture at a time.

Im going to give this a shot. I have a really busy week this week, but I think I should be able to stay up tonight and get it done. I also would appreciate a link to the wikis, never used them. I've got an idea of a way we can have the PDFs of everything available for anyone to download when they need it.

Time for a break before I go too cross-eyed. I have all the tech articles on my hard drive in M$Word doc format.;Sweet My next step will be to convert them all to pdf format and clean them up a bit. Then I'll look at the WIKI files if anyone can tell me where they are.:D

But I think I've had it for tonight. I think it's Miller Time.

I got just about everything in PDF form tonight. 112 files. I am glad that someone else has it too, so its in more than one place. Sounds like your method might be cleaner.

I got just about everything, even though most was in photobucket anyway. And stuff that was all text, that way if something ever happens I've got a backup. Its not the neatest, just hit print and it spits everything out, and some of the pictures are smaller than optimal, but I think it'll work. I'll have some work to do to compile it all into easier to read documents. Also, I got Big Ed's makeover part 1 and 2, and Droopy gets a 4bt at the same time.
