I'm looking to buy a Jayco TT around Feb or Mar. and have been researching WD hitches and am very confused. The TT i'm looking at is 31' long and wet should weigh around #9000 with about a #850 tounge weight. I've looked at some hitches but by the time you purchase all the parts it is going to run 6 or 7 hundred dollars.(Do i need the dual cam sway system with it?) Is this right or am i not figuring this right. Also does anybody know the most economical place to buy the WD hitch. I will be towing it with the truck in my sig.

A good WD unit is about $450

The sway control is optional IMO. I got my WD hitch from http://www.hitch-web.com a few years back. (free freight too) I called the # and got a salesman who actually knew what he was talking about. Get the heaviest hitch bars you can, mine are 1,400 lbs and cost $20 more than 1,000lb bars. EAZ lift is a good brand for a reasonable price, Reese may be nicer looking but it was double the price. I tow a 30' enclosed car trailer that weighs 12,000lbs fully loaded and is as aerodynamic as a brick. No complaints and no sway even when getting passed by 18 wheelers. I see WD units on fleabay quite a bit. they don't wear out so if you can get one for half of new it may be worth it. Also make sure that the shank price is accounted for - some companies include it most will sell it separately and it can be $100 extra.

cheapest price I have seen:

When I had my 1 ton dually I could tow without the sway control but once I stepped down to my current ride (3/4 ton single rear wheel) I need the sway control. We tow a 31ft TT that sits high off the ground like a 5th wheel with a slide (typical weight is 9200~9500lbs wet). As stated the hitches don't wear out (well maybe the ball) but nothing else does so Ebay would be my first stop.

It was amazing to me how much stability 4 wheels on the ground in the rear had compared to only 2 wheels. It's not to say it's unsafe it just means that I have to have my hitch set up correctly now. Before I could pretty much just throw it on there and go - hardly even leaned on the WD bars with the 1 ton dually but with the Dodge - oh brother am I ever leaning on them.
