I'm with Mike on this one. We all sit in our little rooms day in and day out talking these trucks. We often forget that the vast majority of the population doesn't know or even care there is a difference between an IDI and a PSD. If the guy bought the truck under the presumption it was a PSD and never did any work on it himself I can see where he would believe it is a PSD. So then along comes a guy that I've never met, telling me what I've believed in all the years I've owned something, that I'm wrong. I might get a little miffed myself, Who knows maybe the guy was having a bad day? Maybe he has to sell the truck to pay for medical bills? It's funny for us to see his ignorance, but lets keep it to just that.

Heres my take on it..........

The guy is flat out misinformed on what is exactly under his hood, he thinks it is one thing whether that is from being told by someone he knows or trusts or whether he is flat out just ignorant I guess it really doesnt matter. What is wrong is that 10 to 20 guys send him emails or phone calls in a fury of activity based upon "lets have some fun with the idiot".

I'd be a bit defensive were I him.

Put yourself in his shoes.

Well here's mine..and my last one I promise as this is going nowhere FAST. I don't know if gruss or stroker have met or spoke with Darrin but for the rest of you I'm sure he was softspoken and kind with his words as always and after being verbally abused by the seller and not willing to participate in the kind of argument the seller was looking for figured we might be able to enlighten him in his own words.:dunno

Well, at least someone is looking at the positive side of this. Maybe the guy selling the truck really is just not in the know. Not so sure that 20 emails or phone calls harping on him will fix his ignorance. I sure hope he isnt a member here or an anonymous visitor here. If I were him your all's credibility would be in question.

I don't see how my credibility is in question? I only sitr it up at tds? and here is what i asked him? how was this wrong?

I'd like to see a picture of the engine, cause if it is a powerstroke someone put it in a 92 cause the didn't make them tell 95?
does it have a turbo? all powerstrokes have them.
thanks

I'm not bashing Darrin, I have met him several times and know the kind of man he is, I just think it's going a bit far to call or e-mail the guy just to harrass him. Like my first post said, "Some men you just can't reach" (Cool Hand Luke). Might as well leave well enough alone.

Darrin if you took that the wrong way, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend you.

Little analogy....

Pick a topic, something you believe in, and believe in very firmly...... flash forward two hours and someone comes to you on the street, someone you dont know or have never met. This person now tells you that whatever it is the you believe so firmly in is not what you think it is....

Do you question his credibility?

I'm not bashing Darrin.

Nor am I, what I question is what was the goal or desired end response of this thread.

Hey Guys, This thread took off today!

First of all I appreciate the kind words, I know it can be tough sticking up for a Used Car Salesman! LOL I do appreciate it.

Nor am I offended by anything that was said, I like to see other sides and opinions, and somtimes I do stuff without thinking about the consequenses. I have to admit that I was a little worked up after being cussed out, and felt that I really had to vent a little. This simply a light hearted way to let you all know what happened, and that maybee someone here would be willing to try to enlighten the seller.

Right at the beginning of the conversation I asked if it had a turbo, he said No, so I said Oh, So it is an IDI, not a Powerstroke, He responded by "I don't Know who the F--- you think you are,.... Theres a F--- sticker on the truck,...Etc Etc,..." I was really taken back, Most of these Diesel Truck owners are pretty laid back, lot like the guys here. I don't think we have to worry about him being a member.

Anyway, That said, Here is his new posting on Craigslist,..

http://lansing.craigslist.org/car/570290331.html

I wouild actually like to go look at the truck, it sounds like it could be a money maker for me, but I wont deal with this guy so someone else will be geting the truck.

Like I said before, Thanks for the kind words guys, and no offense taken. I can handle it!

Later,..

I too don't want to offend anyone and have the utmost respect for Darrin and the help he provides to people. I'm sure he didn't mean for this thread to turn into a bashing session for someone none of us apparently know.
It would seem at this point, given the information we have, that the seller is genuinely ignorant about the truck he is selling and certainly stubborn about being further educated. He may also be looking at this as someone who is trying to cut his price.
For a newbie (or anonymous viewer looking for information) just reading through our threads, this one could be very intimidating since the responses have been to 'go after' someone who has been already identified as ignorant and doesn't take the advice.
If the seller had taken someone's money and not provided the goods he advertised that would certainly (and in the past has) warranted a response by the bretheren, but how is someone supposed to feel they can 'join' if they are riddiculed for their ignorance.
That being said the lack of an open mind regarding new information, is not going to help, but 'beating' on someone for that same reason will generally just get them to dig in their heels even further. It will also put other newbies in a position of being 'nervous'.

I'll bet you weren't the first to tell him it wasn't a PS. Maybe someone wasn't as polite about it as you and he took it out on you.

My credibility is always in question, not that this guy matters, but I didn't "harp" on him Homer, I just asked him about the conversion. How did he convert this truck to a Powerstroke and did he have pictures! I'm gonna burn your soap box! :)

My thought was a misrepresentation law suit against the guy. I am sure Darrin tried to "talk him down" on the powerstroke issue with tact. I just thought maybe a non-threatening approach would be a way for him to do a little research!
