Waiting between coolant tests

So hypothetically speaking if a family member had bought an IDI from a guy on Craigslist and I got some vc-8 sac additive to put in with the previous green coolant that barely registered anything on the nitrite / molybite scale (something, po knew of sac's but hadn't tested it "in a while" , would a 20 minute drive to breakfast and back be enough to let everything mix and dilute to test again later this afternoon after it cools back down? Or is a much longer trip needed for it to be accurate.

Here is an incredibly poor picture of the test strip by the scale where I hold the strip upside down and make it hard to read. So bottom color of my strip the way I'm holding it is freeze point which is fine. Middle is molybite (sp?), and top the way I'm holding it would be nitrite. Interpret colors on your own judgement. We got two bottles of vc8, I just put one in (one pint) and will see how it tests after that. Colors for the important chemicals seemed very low and so I figured half of a full dose should at least get us on the scale for said test if not put it right at spec since at some point there was supposedly the same vc8 additive in here. He did have an old empty bottle in the garage.. Pictures of truck later if I have time. I'm m leaving for the beach for a week later tonight and this is dads new fun project. I'd convince him to join on here, but my mom will need a new laptop after it would promptly be thrown across Pennsylvania.

Well we got a good drive in and tested it again. I want to say it's good now, it looks like row 3 and e? Maybe d... I'm bad with these color things but if it's 3 and e or 3 and d it's in the acceptable range of the strip so I think we've hit the sweet spot. I don't want to over do it either.

A little over done is of no problem, a lot over done is ******* the water pump.

Over feeding sodium nitrite will not harm your water pump but will harm any solder in your brass radiator or anything copper, brass or aluminum in the engine. Excess being 3000ppm+, most SCA coolant comes in around 2000ppm sodium nitrite. Sodium Molybdate you cant really over feed, though its not recommended in any coolant containing phosphate as its primary corrosion inhibitor.

As for the original question, I think that a 40 mile round trip would have been plenty to get everything distributed evenly throughout the cooling system and ok to test.
