Coolant additive

Does anyone have the PN for a coolant filter with the SCAs already in it? I am running the Classic Diesel Designs coolant filter mount and I’ve heard rumors that there is a filter that slow releases the SCAs into the cooling system.

If that doesn’t exist… Does anyone recommend any test strips over the Fleetgaurd strips for testing the motorcraft VC-8 additive in the coolant?

Oreilly and Napa sell sca precharged coolant. Others on here have mentioned being sold expired test strips

I considered going with the SCA charged filter but I decided that it made more sense to test and then swap out the coolant since crud and grit seems to accumulate over time. 4 gallons of FleetCharge, some distilled water, and an afternoon every 4-5 years isn't too bad. Plus I am now a bit obsessed with trying to get as much crap out of the engine bay as possible.

Ya the more I’ve been thinking about it I think I’m going to do the same.
I just completed a head gasket replacement and would like to completely flush the system of any debris and globs of oil. Have you ever used any Motorcraft VC-1 during your cooling system flushes? I wonder if it would help the process speed along.

No. I did use a Blue Devil brand flush but I think the key is to use a ton of hose water to flush out the block. When I first bought my '91 I found a ton of grit in the system but because I'm on well water I was hesitant to use any. I filled with distilled, drove around, drained, and did this several times but I still had a surprising amount of grit in the system. Next time I'll just use the hose and flush the bejeezus out of it and then maybe do a couple drain and fills with distilled before calling it good--of course a coolant filter would be handy for all that grit, soooo. . . . . .hmmmmm. I did install a small inline filter in the 'block exit' heater hose and it just kept trapping small bits of grit even though the screen was only 400 micron.

Edit: I think Penray makes an "as needed" coolant filter with SCAs.

You can use a funnel with a paint filter inside of it to keep out any grit from well water. Just put the funnel in the radiator and run the hose into the funnel.

A coolant filter will keep your system clean, especially if you get it cleaned up well prior to install.
