Various turbo deaths

So, as promised, here are 3 damaged hot sides from 093/factory IDI turbos.
The shaftless wheel is in the best shape but broke off due to lack of proper lube.

The one in the CHRA is melted and I have not seen this before, owner said it was working. He can chime in with that if he likes.

The shaft and wheel alone I thought passed some chunks but upon closer inspection looks melted/chipped also.

I would have to say a pyro is a must on all trucks.
I am curious to see what mine looks like, pyro has never hit 1200 but

Pretty sad , at this point it is more cost effective to replace the CHRA as it costs minimal labor to re assemble.

Oh and Gary, I put up the cardboard so you couldnt pick threw all the crap on my bench.

Put up the cardboard to keep gary from picking through the things on the bench!!!! Russ, you REALLY do plan ahead!!!! !!!!!

They are 375 for a stocker and 475 for bigger comp wheel one. There are some aftermarket ones but I only use Garrett.

Yea I'd agree w/ your assessment that a pyro is pretty much a must. I'd venture to guess that turbo has never been rebuilt and has 235k miles on it and I've only owned the truck a few months so i can't really speak to what it's seen for prior abuse. Phazertwo's seen the truck and can attest to it being VERY clean. However, the hitch on it is bent, it's only a class 3 hitch, but clearly it's seen some weight on it and the IP was most definetely stock when I bought it.

I'm not sure whether to feel special, or like a goober to say I've got 2 turbo's shown in the "Turbo Death" threads. I guess I do live by the saying: "go big or go home!! "

Used to be a doorknob there, works great to stick shafts thru when rebuilding trannys or whatever.

do you have to do any milling on the housing to handle the larger comp wheel?
