Just a quick question.
I have a TP38 in my 7.3 IDI
I started and ran it a bit for the first time today, but I don't have the exhaust run yet. I noticed that oil is leaking out the exhaust side and the cold side. Leaking fairly bad.

My question is, should the turbo leak oil because it's not spinning, or do I have other problems?

Spinning or not shouldn't affect it, I don't think.
360 rebuild kits are cheap.

Lets see whether I understand this. You have the turbo mounted, but not connected to any exhaust, either side. These turbos must have oil for lubrication. That oil is supplied by the engine, pumped by the engine oil pump. If you have the oil lines installed, then the turbo is being fed lots of oil. I'm not terribly surprised that you have oil draining out of it.

I'd suggest perhaps connecting everything and seeing whether there is still a problem.

Yes that's pretty much about right.
The oil is pouring from the exhaust and cold side

It needs to rebuilt. Of not, you will run out of oil after 5,000 miles...

I wouldn't think so.
There are kits made to circulate oil through the turbo after shutdown.
I know of a few 6.5 guys running it.

So there is no exhaust nor any inlet connected to the engine. Just a turbo bolted to the top of the engine with oil feeding it. Do you have the oil return connected to the valley pan grommet area where the CDR used to vent from? Did you say this turbo was rebuilt or not? I feel you need to turbo spinning to hold the oil in the bushings.

Turbo will leak a lot more when not seeing the drive and boost pressures, hook it up then assess it

I put a 360 kit in this turbo and replaced the impeller.
The oil return, runs back to the fuel pump block off plate via ¾" braided line, and yes there is no up pipes attached yet, therefore it's not spinning
But it is leaking pretty bad
When I rebuilt the turbo, the shaft and housing didn't appear to be worn.

You can see in the above picture, the braided oil return line from the turbo is to the left of the fuel filter tower

Could gravity be working against you? The line rises pretty good and is long, I would think this would create back pressure.
Is there a way to keep it running downhill below the turbo drain. Nice work on all your piping.
