Turbo choice

Im looking to turbo my 7.3, and I want to know what the best turbo would be for me, I want spool around 1800 rpm, and want about 7 psi max.

You could run a non-wastegated with the right wheel, but watch out when your RPM's get higher!

What do y'all Think of the hypermax kit vs the banks sidewinder kit? Since those are the only two kits im seeing. What would building my own kit intel?

I really like my hypermax.
Have about 8 psi.
Super easy install.

Yes sir I installed it. Super easy.
Comes with everything. Complete kit.
Turbo, turbo pedestal, up pipes, oil feed oil drain, cdr relocation, grommet for the oil drain in valley pan, intake, exhaust,
And there's more that I'm missing

I like the wastegated Banks turbo. I've got one on both my IDI's. One thing that makes a difference is how quickly it spools is keeping the heat in the plumping connecting the exhaust manifold to the turbine. I wrapped my F350's cross over pipe, turbine inlet, and down pipe with insulated header wrap. It spools surprisingly lower in the RPM range than my non-wrapped turbo on my F250.

Bought the sidewinder. We'll see how it goes.
Bought it due to the fact it comes with the exhaust kit, and guages, makes for a better, more complete install.

your going to be some pleased with that sidewinder.
it sure is a tight fit,and a lot of work to get her in there.........it's all worth the effort! keep focused on the fact that your engine is going to feel so much more modern it's not funny,and you won't sweat the snug fit.
im with hesutton,with the complete pipe wrap.quick spool off the line.it makes for a tighter fit with two layers over everything,but the extra install effort and a small extra price for the wrap is priceless.

i had the guys over at FTE help me out with my install.after completed i took her to work.here was my first impression:

this is great guys! im extremely impressed.
grossing about 13,500 here in the pics today.
this truck now goes (turbo) as well as she stops (hydroboost.)
it's just like driving a 7.3l psd truck (a stock one) if not better! (it's been a few years.)
she starts out easier,goes down the road easier,and pulls a hill like nobodies business.
one hill i commonly go over,which puts me WOT and in 2nd gear when loaded up like this as n/a was at 40-45mph and screaming.
now boosting about 8-9 lbs WOT she took it with ease in 3rd @ 55mph and would had kept on climbing (and fast i might add) had i not backed off her about half way up!

just driving down the road 45-55mph in OD without any real load/boost gauge reading 0 trumps N/A - seriously.

if anyone is even slightly thinking about buying a banks turbo.stop the thinking and just do it.brand spanking new if you have to and can afford it.it really is worth it.
had i known what i know now,i wouldn't have hesitated to call up banks or buy it online brand new.very happy i found one used of course,but would be all smiles if i payed full price too.she goes so easy.the engine doesn't need to work so hard anymore.

now i can't wait for the intercooler

i decided to upgrade my stock E40D's failure prone torque converter before the intercooler though.
one mod at a time. the intercooler isn't forgotten,just delayed for the more important upgrade first.

When I do have my intercooler on the truck it pulls MUCH harder.

How hard is the intercooler install?

It's not really hard at all.
Hardest part will be making hot and cold side pipes sense there's not a kit forthe banks system.

Pipe routing shouldnt be too difficult.
What wrap is the best? Just grab one from autozone and go?
