turbo air temp

I've been seriously thinking about buying a water to air intercooler, I have someone that can possibly custom build me an intake hat to replace my bulky Banks setup.

Out of curiousity, what does the temperaure of the air coming out of the turbo usually run? (non intercooled)

I know there are variables but just trying to get a basic idea.

Pretty darn hot. Take into account that if you're not running some form of cold air intake and you're running air from the engine bay you're already starting out with 140+-* air temp, then heat that with the turbo, I'm gonna guess around 200*.

I am starting to do some research on adding an intercooler setup and was just curious about air temps.

I also plan on updating my air intake to something a little more modern once I get the truck back.

Which banks turbo do you have?? If you have the banks non gated and end up making an intake hat, have one made for me please!!!

I thought about doing this, but it hit a wall when I figured out The box was the hardest obstacle..

ive heard up to 300 degrees. I have been wanting to put a couple thermocouples on my inlet and outlet pipes for the intercooler to see whats going on.

I have the old non waste gated model, installed back in 1988.

It has that big funky air cleaner box and underneath that, it has a rather large rectengular intake hat.

I want something simillar in size to what ATS uses, I think that would give me just enough clearance to attach a pipe to the turbo.

My next obstacle will be finding a place to mount the water/air intercooler.
I may have to do like one of the other members did, move the pass side battery and put it in place of that.

never worked the numbers for an idi, and alot depends on the effeciency of the turbo and where you are pulling the air from, but from other applications I have built I have seen number as high as 400 (long durations of high boost & heavy load)....200 is a good target and can be achieved if everything is engineered right, and will go a long way towards more power and lower egt's

In all of my apps I always run a temp gauge for my charge air....but then again I am also a fan of chem cooling and remote mounts...

I need to take out my oil temp gauge cause the sender is broke, I was thinking about putting an charge temp gauge in. Would be nice to see where the turbo is efficient

I think making an intake hat is going to be the hardest part for this. If you take the box off and look at it there is hardly any room between the turbo and intake. I thought about cutting the "BANKS" box up so I would be left only the hat part.

bumping this. i was looking for after turbo temp numbers. anyone got anything?

also anyone know if a coolant temp gauge would work for measuring air temp?

I'm guessing any probe in the air flow path will do fine. I'm thinking the air inlet temp from the turbo is around 300 degrees up around 14 or 15 lbs of boost but... I guess it all depends on the turbo you are driving too....
