I'm looking at buying a trailer to go behind my 86 f250 I have 4.10 gears and an automatic it's a 4x4 as well. Are these truck capable of pulling like a 10 foot dump trailer I know I won't be able to pull it as fast as a newer truck but I won't to make sure that it'll be able to pull it and not just blow the truck apart. I'm gonna use the trailer to haul wood or mulch stuff like that

I haul 10k behind my 86 4x4 250 auto with 3:55 gears pretty often. One of these days I'm going to swap in a set of 4:10's

Yes
Check some of the stories in the towing section.
Ive run mine over the scales at +19k, if ya stay sane (stopping the load is key) you'll do fine.

Should be okay. Probably your weakest link is the brake system.

Official Ford spec GCWR for a 6.9 auto w/ 4.10 is 14,000lb (1985) which gives a max trailer weight of 7-8k depending on your truck light weight.

That being said, the 460 auto w/ 4.10 rating is 18,500lb, or ~10k trailer and that's all the same drivetrain aside from the engine which says to me that it's all factory rated from that kind of load and the 6.9 truck is derated due to lower power.

I pull 10k with some frequency and have gone as high as ~14k (trailer weight) with a 3.55 rear. Wouldn't really want to do that with a stock truck, but if you don't mind being slow the truck should handle it okay.

Just make sure the brakes are in good condition. I have hydroboost and an exhaust brake on my rig - would be much more hesitant to pull heavy without both.

Gooseneck campers?
Sorta rare, most of us pull 5ers.
Gn/fifth is my vote.

My horse trailer is a GN.

No reason you can't, you just need to be careful about the rear axle weight. A GN will put about 25% of the trailer weight on the hitch vs 10-15% with a BP. With a SRW truck it's only going to take 2-2500lb of hitch weight to be at max load on the rear axle, which means 8-10k of trailer. Outside of that a GN/5th is a better choice usually.

I have heard gooseneck trailers pull and handle great, a lot better than bumper pull trailers. And they spin around in tight places easier also. Side mirrors only though, your rearview mirror will be nothing but trailer metal.

Don't panic about the truck, if your cooling system is in good condition, you can hold the pedal to the floor all day long and not hurt that engine. You just have to be patient with it, it will be a little slow.
