Well my parents left for the weekend on Friday, and I've been doing a lot of things. Friday I helped a friend pull his engine out of his El Camino (1972, 402 big block). And yesterday, while sitting around on the internet, I saw a post on another site about going up to PIR (portland international raceway) to go to the drags. Well I called my friend up to see if he wanted to go, he said yeah. I printed out the minor consent release form and you know forged some signitures and away I went. I got there at around 7pm and saw the guys from the other site there. Well I was going through registration, they were checking my truck out....and besides having me get all the mud off of my truck (went through our pond that dries up in the summer but its been raining so its a little muddy). They asked for my paperwork, I showed it to him. The guy told me I couldnt run . I was like *** why not man, he said I had to have a notery stamp from like a bank teller person saying that the people who signed it actually did. So I drove the 60 miles there to basically watch . Anyways, one guy from the other site was cool enough to run my truck.

Granted he had never driven it before....it was way slower than what I was thinking. I was wanting high 17's. Anyways his best pass was a 18.6 at 72.7mph. I think I could lower that a couple tenths just from the fact that I know how my truck runs. So I think in its current form 18.4 at around 73mph is all its got in it. Its that dang 2-3 shift lowers the rpm's way to much....I might need a gear vendors or something.........or the darkside

One guy was running an OBS PSD with injectors, 17* HPOP, tuned, gauges everywhere....he was running 14.4's

Well, at least you still got to see your truck go down the track. That's a fun track to roadrace on. I had my bike up to "only" 175mph on the straight. I didn't have a small enough rear sprocket to find the true top end, and had it on the rev limiter about 2/3 down the track. One of my favorite tracks for top speed.

Yeah at least I got to see it run. It puts out more smoke than I was thinking, but nothing compared to their PSD's, we were the only 3 diesel's there. Sounded awesome though, I've never really heard it from outside, that sound kicked the crap out of the sound of all the ricers that where running. He beat a old Honda with a fart can exhaust to the 1/8 mile so I was pretty proud of that .

Was that run in 4wd? Last couple times I ran my truck it was about that time too, but I had trouble hooking up.

They were all in 2wd. He launched in 1st each time. He made 3 runs cause there was a ton of people, and he wanted to run his truck too (I dont blaim him ). First run was a 18.7 and he was getting used to the shift pattern, you could tell cause his shifts were kinda off and he would hit the govener. 2nd run was a 19.375 cause he launched in 1st at 2200rpm's and wheel hoped real bad. The last run was the best, 18.6, but still I he would hit the govener, that time he launched soft in 1st, then went WOT. No real problem with traction, cause if he broke them loose it would just wheel hop on him.

They were telling me I need to swap in a 6spd so the shift pattern was closer together. Cause I do agree, that 2-3 shift drops it out of the power range.

Whats your truck weigh? Mines like 7200-7800 depending on whats in it. The problem I found with racing my truck is after I fixed the wheel hop with the traction bars I have very little weight transfer to the rear wheels. If I spool the turbo off the line I just get tire smoke. Maybe the L/S will help, I might get around to putting that in someday

My truck weighs 6300. I'm thinking I have something not right with my truck...IP going south maybe . Your truck shouldnt be that much faster than my truck and weigh half a ton more.

A weak pump could explain why my EGT's are low.

Last year I was running the same time you are with a partially plugged fuel filter. An Auto is almost always gonna be quicker than a manual. I'd say you right about the normal range cause your probibly at a higher altitude than me too.
I bet if we lined em up it would be a toss up

I doubt I was any higher, PIR is a couple hundred feet maybe. And I know the manual is a slower, but I would think it would just about even out compared to the weight. We shall see....next time I will get that dang notery stamp and I will run it

You think your parents would sign it for you for real? I don't see why they wouldn't, so many worse and more dangerous things a 17-18 year old lad could be doing. Sounds like you've proven yourself responsible and sensible to them. Better than trying to forge things and such.

Yeah, I think they would. I went and told them and they laughed and said well thats stupid that you need that, and my dad went off about back in the day he would drag his 70 Challenger all the time without permission. So yeah, I think they would. I told them I forged their signitures and they just laughed, so its all good

Having a stick shift period with these trucks will slow you down on the strip. If your after the drag strip get an auto. But not too bad for an old 6.9l & it was nice of that other guy to run it for you.

Yeah, thats probably true, I was just thinking that being my truck is basically the lightest truck you could get with an IDI, that the stick wouldnt slow it down all that much. But I do agree with him on that 2-3 shift, cause 1-2nd is fine, but it kinda bogs down when you shift into 3rd. He said he loved the sound my truck made though. He's a mod at the other site (site for us NW guys).

Justin, next time you plan on going to either PIR or Woodburn give a shout. PIR is only 30 minutes form the house and Woodburn (depending on how I drive) is only 45 minutes. I want to run my truck in stock configuration and then again after the turbo install. Could be fun.
What all is needed for you to run your truck? Can we tell a little white lie and say I'm an uncle or something?
