Hi all,
First post - but long time lurker here. I have an 86 F350 flatbed with a well-worn 6.9 idi.
I recently installed a rebuilt Stanadyne pump from Diesel Care and Performance, along with reman injectors and return lines from Accurate Diesel. Also installed an electric fuel pump some time ago to eliminate the lift pump.
Glow plugs are Motorcraft/Beru and in good working order, albeit operated via switch to the relay.
The pump did not have static timing marks scribed, so I installed it straight up and down. I did not remove the timing gear or cover.
The truck starts and idles much better than it used to and shows no signs of the previous symptoms (stall and no-start until IP cooled off), but there's definitely more white smoke on startup. The smoke persists while idling, then is hazy under load. Before the new pump, I had a dark haze under heavy load and no smoke at idle.
I have been unsuccessful in finding a shop to time this pump -- the one shop I found in Monroe is understandably hesitant to time an "internet rebuilt" pump. Any suggestions in the Seattle area? I looked through the timing service thread, but didn't see any locals.
