Time for new glow plugs & other toys

Okay I am getting parts for my truck IP & tach sensor from OLDBULL Glow plugs from pensacola new calipers pads rotors drums shoes trans lines too and from trans cooler. My main concern is do I need any special tools to do the GP or is it just a deep well socket?

No special tool, deep well socket. Spray em with some penetratiing erl before hand n let em soak. Hopwfully none have swelled. Anti-size on the threads n then torque em to spec. May need a swivel or wobble extension, i dont remember.

okay that will work would it help to let her run for a while before trying to get them out.
I also plan on getting injectors in the near future and trying to find a way to get to the rally for the timing clinic and to meet some others that like these trucks.My family thinks i am crazy for spending money on this "ugly rusted POS" but I love it and it bkeeps me out of trouble.

Make sure the glow plugs are motorcraft Beru only. Nothing else works for very long in these engines. Campion, autolites and bosch are not plugs with a very good history in these engines. Now some emebers have run these plugs and had no issues but... they are not the norm either. Every rule has some exceptions to it. Apply some extra anti sieze in only yhe plug threads and keep it away from the actual beveled sealing part of the plug. The threads do nothing for sealing. They just hold the plug in the head against the seat.

Well right now i am going to use what pensacola sends me for $60 to get me buy till i can get back to work this spring when i can start getting the rest of the parts i want for it.
moose IP,turbo,tires,cab,bed,paint,10" twin stacks & if at all posible a jake brake plus anything else i might need to go with it like a full rebuild of the old 7.3

Between me and a friend we've ran about 3 sets of Bosch on manual control only. 5 seconds. Only issue we ever had was when someone accidentally held mine for about 20-30 seconds . Killed all 8 but they all came out just fine, no warp-age. Second set lasted me a season before I swapped to Berus to try them out. The Bosch were still working and came out just fine, all 8 are spares in glove box. Friends set lasted 2 seasons so far. I usually tighten them a little harder than that, with no ill effects yet. Mostly don't want to see one come flying through the hood if it vibrated out!

Its funny in some other diesel applications people consider bosch good but with the 6.9/7.3 crowd they don't like em cause the controller will burn them out in a month give or take. It overglows them a ton - like I said 5-7 seconds is plenty. The controller usually goes longer then that, and then when cold the controller will afterglow them - if you use the glowplug controller DO NOT USE bosch. It WILL kill them. Use only Beru, its the only glowplug that can take the abuse

When I bought my truck it had some champions, autolites, and who knows whats. I guess I got real lucky because all 8 came right out. Didn't even grease it up

Just a heads up - you need a 3/8 deep well for the GPs. The smallesst most socket sets go in deep well is 7/16. 10mm will work but I prefer 3/8 to minimize chance of rounding off one.

I have no idea how long they have been in so i will spray them today and 4-5 more times before the 1st when my other set get in

Like stated above, antisieze is your friend. Be sure the thread get some before install. With a turbo, the number 7 and 8 cylinders are real fun. N/A, the biggest headache is the injector lines, but its not too bad.

Quarter Inch 1/4 drive have deep sockets that go much smaller than 3/8.... my set goes to at least 1/4 or smaller.....

This is a Craftsman 1/4 set from a larger tool set (The 300ish piece setm they have on sale a couple times a year)
