I had mine do something similar and it turned out to be the cap. Seen it happen on another truck also. On mine it was getting warm and leaking at the cap, on the other one it was overflowing the out of the bottle. Both times a new cap fixed it.

Heath, yours does sound a lot like it.
I know that it would be a little frustrating for it to be that simple, but I'd think it would be a relief too!

As an update, I didn't get to do anything on the truck yesterday. I got home from work at 10:30pm. I left the system pressurized with R12 for over 24 hours. Dad had a look at the pressure for me last night. It had not changed at all.

I can and will test the cap. Forgot to mention, it was new as well. If it is just the cap, I will be happy as a clam!

Can't drive it right now as the transmission is out as I'm going to be putting in a new SMF kit from SBC. It can yesterday!

I seriously doubt it is a head or a gasket at this point which is great. I really didn't want to pull that engine again....... plus I want to camp some more before winter gets here.

If it turns out to be a bad cap. I'm gonna say it was Divine intervention, to make you not keep towing with the family onboard with a off center presure plate. I don't want to think about the wear to the crank and input shaft of the tranny towing that far.

No doubt Russ! Seeing that pressure plate cam on the flywheel like that did not give me a warm and fuzzy feeling. I will certainly test the whole kit prior to putting the trans back in.

They said......... "The flywheel must have been incorrectly drilled for the pressure plate. Sorry, I'll send you a new SMF kit. No, we don't need you to send the old kit back."

I can't imagine I'm the first guy with this kit to have this problem. I'm sure if I was, they would want it back for failure analysis. I bet they are just glad nothing else was damaged that they would be liable for. I'm surprised they don't know what lot of flywheels are bad and have tried to recall them.

Well gees... If you get to keep all the flywheel and clutch parts that sounds like a win win to me. Two complete flywheel clutch setups of half price... Wow. Mark the old ruined wheel with the new wheel and drill and tap... then to the market place it goes....

Exactly what I was thinking.
IDI's are internally balanced, right?
If so, for peace of mind you could take the whole assembly to a machine shop after re-drilling the holes and have them balance it. Any good machine shop will have a mandrel for spinning flywheels for their balancer.
Then you got yourself a spare clutch.

I too vote for a bad radiator cap....I was having similar issues when temp was 90+ and truck would run hot...

I PSI tested my cooling system and it held pressure for 15 minutes....went to test the cap - LEAK CITY!! It wouldn't even attempt to hold pressure...7 bucks for a new cap = problem solved.

Try the easiest thing first! You may be suprised.

Me too! I get a slight vibration at about 45+ mph and keeps getting worse the faster you get. Feels like it's coming threw the trans/t-case area

Have you checked your U joints to rule them out?

Yepp cuz that's what I thought it was. The front 2 are less than 2 weeks old and the rear 2 are less than 2 months old. I think it's in my transfer case cuz the vibration is worse in that shifter then in the gear shifter.

Dont rule out the pinion nut on the rear axle either.
