I apologise if this has been addressed before, I couldn't find my symptoms. Truck is a 93 F250, 7.3 idi na, E4Od trans.
Today I noticed coolant leaking from the lower hose. I will be replacing the hose in the morning. After starting up, I noticed I no longer had a tachometer. Was working earlier before stopping at the store.
Truck starts up perfect. Transmission is shifting better than it has in the last 15 years ( previously owned by my father since 96 ).
Before it would always shift hard. Now it shifts smooth and has more acceleration than before. I can almost spin the tires with little effort.
At 55 mph, I can disengage and re-engage the overdrive. I definitely have all 4 gears. Overdrive light has not worked for years. Can't tell if it is flashing or not. Replacing O/D switch has been on my to do list. Unfortunately, I have been replacing all the 28 year old rubber hoses.
Everything I have read tells me if I loose a tach sensor, transmission goes into limp mode and/or does not have all gears.
My question is, other than the tach sensor, what can cause a loss of tach?
How bad is it to drive?
