Superduty intercooler question

I was walking though the u pull it today and came across a 99 model superduty 7.3. It was almost all there except the turbo and piping to the intercooler. The intercooler was loose, so I grabbed it. If I remember correct, many people have used this intercooler on obs trucks right? I should be able to use this on my truck with a banks turbo right? Of course, with a different intake hat and some new pipes.

Price was right, so even if I couldn't use it, I thought I could put it on eBay or something.

I believe Russ aka typ4 has this size on his rig but he cut it down. Felt it was too large but not certain about that or the year of his. I do know his was all aluminum and not the plastic end tanks..

Glad I can use this. He said a couple more diesels that vintage coming in the next few weeks.

This seems to have a lot of oil in it. Is there a good way to flush this thing out?

I would suspect a nice blend of cascade autoelectric dishwaser detergent and HOT HOT HOT water then rinse rinse rinse rinse...

Let me know if you can get another, I'd sell my 6.0 cooler and use one of those in heart beat!!!!

I've watched these go up for sale on Craigslist for $150-$200 over the past couple years. I cruised down to my local jy, and paid a cool $100 for one that was pulled and on the shelf. And this as a junkyard that usually prices stuff pretty high (B&R).
Just need to find the time to install it...

Wouldn't a 6.0 cooler cool better? It's common for People with 7.3 psd's to swap their ic for a 6.0 one. Although I do have to admit that one looks like it would have been easier to mount than my 6.0 cooler

Now that I'm thinking about oil in an intercooler, any way to keep my banks turbo from flooding this thing from the cdr running through it? I always have a little oil sitting on the intake of the turbo, but I just don't see another way of running it that will work properly. I don't like the sound of a road draft tube setup either.

Will that fine mist of oil settle in the intercooler like I am afraid it will?

Maybe some drains installed in the bottom of the side caps?

Can you weld brackets etc on a plastic tank...didn't think so...those al ones have that option.

Stand it on end in the sun and it will drain, I have thought of drilling and tapping the tanks but havent done it yet.
As far as the 6.0 IC, way to big, I cut 6 inches off one of these and it works great. I had a 6.0 and it just covers too much radiator.
Here is a pic of the cut, the other is of the cutout for the 6.0 cooler and this one fit right in with a tiny bit of trimming, you lose the bottom radiator mount bolts but it hasnt been a problem.

i have put some brake clean in them and capped it off then moved it around so the brake clean can get every were and thin out the oil, then i just take the caps off and stand it up right and it all drained right out, and the brake clean will evaporate on its own so no need to worry about it being in there

Its only a problem I think if you pack a camper and trailer, and have the fuel maxed out with 1100 pyro temps.

Laquer thinner works good too for cleaning.

I should be fine then, I hardly ever tow with this thing, and if I do it's just a car or truck a short distance.
