Stupid ATS downpipe...

I was messing with my exhaust the other night, and the fit of my ATS downpipe has gotten so loose that it fell out of the turbine housing when I started loosening up the clamps and hangers! Lovely.

Whoever decided that was a good way to attach the downpipe is an idiot...

Mine is so tight that even after grinding down it takes a whopping session with a sledge to get it in, but if I go up a driveway sideways, the frame flex will pop it out of the stinking hole and sometimes it will settle back in on its own and sometimes I have to whop it back in . No sense to the thing

I'm convinced that there is nothing on any vehicle that is harder and more frustrating to deal with than the ATS turbo systems made for these older trucks. Have you seen the ATS kit for a GM 6.2 diesel? Holy crap its unbelievable I'd put money on the manifold weighing in at over 50lbs and you have to lift the engine out of the bay to even bolt the stupid thing on there

When they work they do the job but when they give you fits its a complete nightmare

It's a pretty stupid design I agree. Truck sure sounds nice without a downpipe though

Garrett: I had the exact same problem. Don't count on the guys at ATS being any help. I suspect they are a bit challenged. I took a regular old exhaust hanger (just using the tab part with all the holes) put a bend in it (almost 90*) and bolted it to the closest bellhousing bolt, then once I got the downpipe all the way into the turbine hosing, bolted the other end of the hanger to the swiveling tab on the downpipe. It has been about two months and held thus far.

Weird, I've never had an issue with mine. When I rebuilt my engine years ago, I did have to heat up the turbo housing with a torch to get it apart, but I havent' had any issue since. I just put a 4 inch exhaust on and the downpipe was still on tight.
