I know it’s frowned upon by most but when I hit a hill pulling anything or just getting on it getting up to speed it smokes pretty bad. I really don’t like it. It seems kinda obnoxious at times. It’s a crew cab so I do have room for a muffler. I built this stack out of 3x3x3/16” tube.
Questions
What’s the best way to mount and connect it?
I’m going on the passenger side only. The way the bed is configured where would it look the best?
How high above can should it go?

Edit
I run WMO

My headache rack comes out the full width of the deck, so I'm going to put mine right in the corner with the cab. Hopefully you have enough door swing clearance (I have a club cab).

I’d fix the problem instead of putting a band aid on it. First what does a muffler have to do with anytning. It does not cut down on smoke. It’s still gonna smoke the exact same with your stack. Just turn down your fuel. You’re way over dueled at this point and all that smoke is just unburnt un used fuel. Tell you what. Turn your pump down and send me 10bucks cash every time you fill your tank. You’ll spend the same amount t of money but have less smoke. And you can put a proper exhaust back on it and not have people Like me laugh at you.

Stack looks good. Vertical height i think ~6” max above rack/cab. Too high and it becomes more liability. Depends on how the rack is used too. If loading anything on top it may be more functional to have stack max height below the rack

An exposed pipe tip highlights your smoke.

For this reason, my exhaust tips stop under the truck 6-18". I have to clean up my tuning for when I switch to the stack.

I’d rather keep mine through the bed. I have enough room for what you’re saying but I’d like to get it a bit further from the cab

Never said a muffler had anything to do with smoke.

I'm not sure what you carry for payload, but I want that whole deck space free of obstacles. For that same reason, I have the fuel filler outside the deck, in the corner on the driver side.

I don’t carry much payload. That stack will be beside my fuel tank

Well @kbenz , if you would be a good boy and quit burning that sauce, smoke wouldn't be an issue. Maybe you should just conform.........naaaaaaa.....

I feel ya on the smoke thing. My current engine in the dually is doing really good, no smoke unless I'm pulling 8 rolls of hay uphill. My prior engine was pretty "clapped" and at stop lights id almost feel sorry for the car next to me(though I kinda thought it was funny watching them roll up their window sometimes). The tow trucks stacks dump a few inches above the cab and that really keeps the chuffing up high enough to not be a neusance, except that it does this vortex thing that will hit an un-windsheilded motorcycle rider right in the face(but those guys are tough and enjoy such things).

My current engine in the dually is a low mileage NA 7.3, with a new pump and new BB injectors. It doesn't smoke except on start up and hard pulling so I don't mind the pipe under the truck. The tow truck is a slap wore out 87 6.9 with wore out pump and injectors, smoked like the Dickens. She's currently laid up waiting for a overhaul.

Here's a picture of her smoking! Isn't she lovely....
And no, my pumps not turned up! That's bad rings and WMO!

And if you go through my "Jesus Freaks WMO tow truck" thread, there's pictures of how I made my stacks into glass packs and shut it's loud self up!

With a fabrication shop like I see in the background of your picture, dude you can get as "eccentric artistically weird" as you want with a stack. Rock on, senor @kbenz! Viva La WMO!!!!

Edit: I picked up about 250 just a couple days ago!

I do NOT care if some people do not like stacks - they can/do serve a functional purpose.
I have a stack on my truck because I spend a lot of time in traffic, and I don't like to smoke the cars next to me.
It is an IDI engine.... there is NEVER a time when there is "no smoke, ever" . . . . .
