Stack Question

I got some atacks off a peterbuilt for free and I said What the Heck, I will put em on . I have never even considered stacks until now. How do the stacks stay secured? I was thinking welding some sheet metal on the outside of the stack and bolting that plate to the bed??? Also, Should I do one Or Two? One would be easier... Last thing, since I have a toolbox and headache rack, should put the stack(s) behind the rack but in front of the toolbox?

I would put the stacks like you said, behind the rack but in front of the tool box. Might want to try to see what others have done about mounting, they should be rigid, but where do you mount it to, I dont know.

What kind of stacks, how big?

I think they are 5" with some turnouts at the top, chrome of course. I can Post pics sometime. However, One stack would be so much easier and practical and two would just look better....

Mine are attached to the bed sides with an exhaust clamp.

This is how they were mounted in my 85 F-250. Had a small "L" bracket welded to the pipe that bolted to the bed. There was also a flange welded to the bottom of the stack that bolted to the bed floor.

I think one stack looks goofy personally but thats just me. running two is not all that hard just run your dp back and t it into a piece of pipe then 90 that piece up through the bottom of the bed on either side. i would make the stacks removable. you could slide the stacks over the piece coming up through the bed and just let them sit on the bottom of the bed, they will not leak as there is really no back pressure from there on out. another method i have seem is to use a piece of square tubing sitting in the bottom of the bed as an echochamber. the easiest way to do it is the first but the second does sound better imo. pulling the bed should make things easier until you get to routing the pipes up through the bed. do not hard mount the stacks. the best way to do it is to weld a peice of flatbar onto the bed and then onto the stack with holes in both and bolt a piece of rubber from the stack to the bed at the top and bottom. i have put stacks on three different trucks so any questions just ask

Yea,Run duals.Will look kinda funny with the huge gap on one side and the stack on the other.Get you a 1x4 foot section of Diamond tread(maybe an old running board) and cut it to fill in the gap between the stack,tool box and bed.

Ok I just saw it earlier, and this thing is either a five or six inch. For now I will probably do one stack, then go to two soon. Thanks for the help and ideas guys
