Might I ask why you would advise against putting a turbo on a idi?
I'm just a fan of trucks being left stock. If it was designed with out a turbo and you put one on its a greater possibility of blowing head gasket and or overheating.

Well for what it's worth, these were turboed from the factory starting in 93 with no modifications to head gasket clamping or cooling.

I deliver new campers with a 89 crew with a banks turbo, I added the turbo. I pull campers dry weight 5k to 11k all over the us. Started with it na and added the turbo, pulling the Pennsylvania and rocky mountains the worst I've gotten down to was 45 mph at 230 water temp and 1125 egts with propane injection out overdrive. I've run 100,000 in a year with very little trouble.
The guys with the newer trucks have a lot of computer issues and most of the ones with the 6.0Oho are on the 2nd and 3rd engine which is rough when you have a $1000.00 month payment and the cost of a new engine. Upgrade the idi and stay away from the newer computerized nightmares.

you didn't really ask this, but I just wanted to share my experience.
I have an 89 na idi and it also pulls some hills at 30-40mph
I also have a 96 with mild tune, and exhaust, nothing crazy.
It pulls the same hills with heavier loads in od with the cruise set at 65

turbos are awesome

True, but it's kind of unfair to compare a N/A IDI to a 7.3PSD when towing.
