Reset codes to no avail

Hi guys , first post so go easy on me.

Got a 94 F350 IDI turbo , had this a couple of months , would rattle my teeth out when shifting gears , saw a faint light on the gear shifter , turns out the previous owner or trans shop covered the light with some tape , removed this tape to find an annoying bright flashing light , adjusted FIPL on IP for 1.1 volt idle/4 volt full throttle , dissconnect batteries to reset codes & went for a drive , couple of days later the trans started shifting harsh & the light was back on..........cleaned all connections to multiplugs on either side of trnny & checked for good wireing @ bulkhead connector , tach/speedo is not moving around erraticly , decided to check FIPL again today & all is good , disconnect batteries (three) for 10 minutes , connect batteries back up & i still have the OD light flashing as soon as i start the truck , i thought it would @ least clear the code & if anything would stay off for a couple of days , i'm stumped , i did notice the tach wires coming out of sender have bare wires going in to sender , but i made sure these were'nt touching each other till i pull the sender & sort them out.

Sorry for long post but i can't find anything in search that had the problem whereby the codes would'nt reset when hooking batteries back up.

do you have access to a scan tool?
these trans have more issues than just the FIPL switch itself.

Got no access to scan tools , live in London England , can somebody tell me what i'm looking to buy or where i can get this scanner in england?

Welcome to the forum... About cleaning the electrical plug connections. How many did you clean. On the passenger side of the trans there is a main plug behind the heat shield. Then you will find tow or three on the tail shaft up near the top on the trans. Then there is the mlps on the linkage under the drivers seat side of the trans. Now up near the master cylinder you have three connecters in a row. All these need to be cleaned with a contact cleaner thats harmless to plastic. After they dry grease them with die electric grease. Hopefully this will fix it for you.

you have two choices at this point if the terminal cleanup doesn't help.

Shouldn't 1994 be able to spit codes out by itself either by flashing a dash light or with a volt meter? I pulled codes from a 1993 GMC simply by jumping 2 terminals in the OBD test port under the dash. The result was a code flash via the check engine light.

Does this method work with his truck?

The computer control on these IDI's (trans computer - TECA = Transmission Electronic Control Assembly) does NOT store codes - when you shut the truck off it reset all by it's little ole lonesome - but then when you start it back up it will do another check and if a problem is found it will set an error code.

Is the tachometer working?

Tach works as does everything else , after seperating wires on tach sender yesterday i disconnected the batteries today for 10 minutes , seems the OD has stopped flashing & all is back to normal (for now).

Now i got the turbo giving boost (leak between snail & impeller housing) i turned the fuel up 1/4 turn (another 1/8th would have it bottomed out) & she runs clean (12psi boost/900* pyro reading with no smoke) , advanced IP around 1/4" & took it for a ride , no rattles coming off idle & a slight haze of black/grey smoke , pyro reads 1000* with boost around 13psi , truck runs much better with added torque , gets up to speed pretty fast too , only issue with this is it rolls coal pretty bad for a second or two when you nail it from a standing start then cleans right up , looks pretty cool if you like that kinda thing , reminds me of the film 'DUEL' , thanks again fot taking the time to help me out here , this is a great site with some nice people on here.

Sounds like the tach sender was shorting out and causing the trans issues. Glad you got it fixed. Yes... There are a lot of great members here. Most will do whatever it takes to keep a fellow member running..... And its usually free for the asking.... Sure beats the dealerships... So seeing that your "over there" does your truck drive from the right or left side... How it it on those notoriously small roads. How did you get such a rig over there...

Sadly i had to sell my 68 charger , had a load of fun with this car on the street & on the track , motor was a 605" RB & ran the bottle , had some spare cash when i sold the car & saw this truck in the classifieds , was a show winner a number of times with the trophys sitting in the guys cabinet , i was gonna go for a dodge Dually as i'm into mopars , as soon as i saw a pic of the rear end of this truck i got all exited , best rear end on any truck as far as i'm concerned , just love the fat assss , the truck was bought over here around 2006 , the guy i bought it off had it imported so he was the 2nd owner......................i've gotta say for a 4 ton truck (am i right?) , with around 1/2 ton sitting in the bed this thing really hauls ass , was'nt really impressed when i first drove it but now i've done a few tweeks on her she really hauls the mail , that ole 68 charger put out around 800 ft/lb of torque & around 800 horses on motor , so i ain't bulling talking about the performance of the truck.

Some of our roads are a little tight over here , truck can be a handfull @ times.
