Saw this Racor CCV system today. Wouldn't this be a much better design than our current cdr especially if turbo'd? No more throwing oily mist into the turbine.

If I understand it correctly, the Racor unit would be plumbed in place of the current cdr. A drain from the filter back to the engine would need to be added.

I called Mid-Atlantic Engine Supply and the unit is $226 replacement filters run $28

Speaking to an owner of a unit on 2001 PSD, he says he replaced the filter at 15k even though the indicator did not show it was time yet.

It's definitely the way to go if you can't get along with an RDT (too much blow-by or legal problems). I've seen that unit on some of the trucks in our forums. Keep asking around, and somebody will show you pictures of their install.

Looks like it might be worth the money, but how difficult is the installation? Where would a person mount it? I don't really like dumping the blowby into the engine OR the atmosphere.

I should know the answer soon, my used one is being shipped this week.
Previous owner had his mounted on the frame rail.

Jon,

Did you get the Racor unit installed? What were your experiences with the install and usage?

Where to mount it is going to be my biggest issue. By their calcs, if I am to use the closed unit, the smallest(10cfm) is necessary. Problem is, the darn thing ain't small. there's vibration issues on these motors to deal with, so it can't be tied to the body, only the motor. Otherwise, the tubing will become a maintence item. take a look at your heater hoses and you'll see what I am talking about. I have an extra Banks CDR bloc, and I will be putting that on in the meantime, but the Racor holds potential. Especially with diesel emissions testing on the horizon in '07.

Yeah towcat, I really like the Racor operation. Sounds good, but is pricey. Mounting was my concern too. That's why I want to hear from JPR.

Still NA, but not for long. I hope to have a Hypermax turbo and an intercooler on it before too long!

The previous owner had it on the frame. He bought a newer more compact unit for his 2005 F350. With the frame mounting, you just cap the drain and check it at each oil change. I did find another possible mounting spot where the coffee can is, however due to height issues and the hood hinge folding down into this area, it will be tight.

I think the Racor is a nice setup for a turbo'd idi, but I don't think it would be worth the trouble for a n/a engine.

Thanks JPR. I'm trying to solve some of the little problems before I do my turbo/intercooler install.
